Hello, I was dx'd with MS years ago. My MRI's are always done "with and without contrast" I also have a scan done on both my brain and neck areas so it's basically like having 4 MRS's. It usually takes around 2 hours, but it's not as bad as it sounds..I just wear headphones with music and usually fall asleep.
Getting the results usually take a couple of days for me , but i live in a small town where the images are sent out for reading.
Please give your partner a big hug and let him know it's going to be OK..MS is not a death sentence and is so much more manageable than even 10 years ago.

the scan can take between 20 to 40 minutes and is very noisy he'll be given ear plugs or some thing similar. the results are normally ready with in a couple of hours but if it's on the nhs he could have to wait for a couple of days. if there is any thing that is of concern i should imagine that he'll get a call pretty quickly. I hope it all goes well for him and the results are good. on the point of having an MRI done is he OK with enclosed spaces he could ask for a sedative i didn't and was hysterical until they put me in a scanner with a mirror to look out of and my dad to hold my foot sad i know but it really scared me.

I work in a hospital and depending on the doctor who reads the scan it can take a day or two. I'm sorry. I know that isn't what you wanted to hear.

Side comment:
Someone close to me was diagnosed with MS 3 years ago, however they tried (experimentally) giving him low doses of chemotherapy once a month and his symptoms have not increased since treatment began.

I'll say a prayer for your partner right now.

Multiple sclerosis is characterized by disseminated patches of demyelination in the brain and spinal cord. Common symptoms include visual and oculomotor abnormalities, paresthesias, weakness, spasticity, urinary dysfunction, and mild cognitive impairment. Typically, neurologic deficits are multiple, with remissions and exacerbations gradually producing disability. Diagnosis is by history of remissions and exacerbations plus objective demonstration of at least 2 separate neurologic abnormalities by clinical signs or test results, MRI lesions, or other criteria, depending on symptoms. Treatment includes corticosteroids for acute exacerbations, immunomodulatory drugs to prevent exacerbations, and supportive measures.
Please see the web pages for more details on Multiple sclerosis and MRI.

As fast as the radiologist can read it and have the report sent to your doctor. Some days we have a turn around time(exam to report) of two hrs or less. Our rads are fast in our little Oregon hospital. At my old job(Kaiser-HMO) the average time was about four days to a week to get a report. So I guess it just depends on what protocols are used at each facility. Good luck

Hi,
First of all who referred your partner to have the scan?
If it is a hospital consultion, he will need to go back to the clinic to see him, so make sure he has an outpatient appointment to go back.
If it's his gp it usually takes 10 days, and again make sure he has made an appointment to go back and see him for his results.
All the very best to him.

Depending on the # of cases done daily, within couple of days.
I worked in some hospitals, they gave report the same day evening.
All the best for your partner!

Usually with most test that doctors orders you have to go to the doctor to get the results. So every thing could be fine.
