its just swollen, it wont rip, skin is tough. You can hang from hooks with the skin and it wont rip. It's tough stuff. Use a little baby oil or hand cream to help the skin relax (unless it is broken skin). If no improvement, speak to either the tattoo artist or a medical person.

This is a normal sensation with newly applied tattoos, especially on cover-ups as the tattoo artist has to ensure that the cover-up is effective and generally has to work the ink more.
The area that you have had the work done on is not a fleshy part of the body, therefore the sensation of tightness may be more pronounced.
I always recommend using Bepanthen on newly applied tattoos, this is available from chemists. It keeps the area moisturized and helps to cut down on irritation.
The sensation of tightness will go. As always look after your tattoo in an appropriate way until fully healed.

That's because it's dry!!!

You're supposed to wash it with cool water and a mild fragrance free soap, gently pat dry with a lint free cloth and apply a thin layer of A+D ointment (with clean hands) on it for the 3 times a day for the first 4-5 days...don't pick off any scabs....after the first 5 days you keep doing the washes but now you can apply a fragrance free lotion such as Cetaphil until it's fully healed.

Don't go swiimming or even in hot tubs or saunas. Avaoid exposing the tattoo to any UV Rays (sun or tanning booth) for at least 2 weeks. After that be sure to use sunblock on your tattoo if it's gonna be exposed to UV Rays.....and keep your skin moisturized to keep your tattoo(s) looking nice.

You tattoo artist shoulda told you this.

The above people that said use baby oil or lotion on a fresh tattoo....just don't listen to 'em.

Coverups are difficult...

You just had a needle literally reopen scar tissue...that alone will make it tender. Now your body is rebuilding scar tissue again over the same scar...it will take a bit longer to heal, it will also be a little tighter. It's all normal.

Rember:
Only use a topical A & D for the first 72 hours. After that, wash with an antibacterial, allow to air dry, and apply a vitamin D enriched skin lotion (non scented and non bacterial) to the area, pat off ALL excess lotion, apply as ness.

it sounds like you aren't keeping it moisturized. if it's allowed to dry out it could scab early and possibly split which could cause scarring once it's healed. you should be putting something on it about four times a day.

just make sure to keep putting plenty of lotion on it. that will keep it from feeling tight like that. the skin won't rip but if it gets too dry like that the color can crack, so you want to make sure to keep it good and moist. :)
