For a month now I've been suffering from a peculiar sort of physical pain... a pain in the butt, or just above the hips to be precise, exactly at the point where my tail should have been if I said "grrrrrr" instead of "how do you do?" Jokes apart, it's a severe, momentary pain at the bottom of the spine and it happens when I bend my spine... for example, to reach for something at my knee level, etc. The pain is most severe when I try to bend over to reach for something on the floor, while standing. It feels like a sharp pointed pang, but it subsides before I can say "ouch!" I don't really recall exactly when it started about month ago, but I can say it started without incident. And at first i thought it was some sort of funny sprain or like... but it's worse, it increased.

My question is, what is it? How may I get relief -- is it necessary to see a doc or may I try something myself? It sounds orthopedic, so is there a chance that it'll change severity over time?

STAY AWAY from Chiropractors!

You need to see a Neurologist or an Orthopedic Doctor. It sounds like you are pinching your sciatic nerve.

Sciatica sucks and even with surgery to relieve a pinch in the spinal column does not mean you will not suffer from sciatica for the rest of your life.

I had a severe pinch of the L-5/S-1 and had surgery. It helped but I can flare up the sciatic nerve by prolonged sitting, slouching while sitting, excessive bending or lifting to much, etc.

Below is a web link to tell you about the sciatic nerve. I'm 99% sure of what your describing is what you are suffering from.

See the professionals and do not listen to us Yahoo's.

GOOD LUCK!

you need to see a chiropractor and get an X. ray to find out what is going on with your tailbone area. A chiropractor is the best person to treat spinal problems. It's impossible for anybody to diagnose what your problem is on the internet. I've enclosed a link where you can find a qualified chiropractor in your area.
