Abortion, Death Penalty, and Homosexuality.
Many of our faiths frown down upon some of these issues. So basically, what I'm trying to ask is if your faith has a big part in your views on these issues? Why/Why not? OR do your morals come into play regardless of religion?

Examples:
L.D.S. do not approve of homosexual relationships, yet there are members of the church who support gay marriage or are even gay themselves.
Catholics are against abortions, but many members of that faith get abortions or are pro-choicers.

My views are:
Pro-life. I am against abortion. Unless a woman has been raped, or the mother's life is in danger, then it is her choice.
I am against gay marriage, but believe that a homosexual couple should have the right to a civil union. I believe marriage should only be between a man and a woman. I also believe that homosexuals need to have laws that will protect them against hate crimes.
On the death penalty... I am not sure where I stand on this issue.
My religious beliefs: I am a Latter-Day Saint/Mormon.

Abortion: only in a case wherein the mother's life was at stake or the child would be born only to die shortly thereafter in agony.
Death Penalty: If murder is wrong then it's wrong. No one should kill anyone else, even if they're a killer.
Homosexuality: I think it's a bit disconcerting what they do but so long as they're not harming anyone, it's their own personal business.

How can you be against abortion as it's murder but not against the death penalty, surely both are murder?
Abortion, I feel is the right of the parents to decide. Hopefully they have the best interests of the child and know there circumstances better than some preacher.
Death Penalty, Currently I'm against it. Not due to right or wrong but due to the poor conviction rate. Even today with all the technology we have Innocent people are still sentenced to death.
Homosexuality, what people do in there own homes is there own business. I'm happy for small signs of affection between couples but some of the gays seem to want to push you to braking point with touching and suggestive commenting.
With the state of marriage currently anywhere in the western world I don't really see why anyone would want to force the issue of marriage. There is no really benefit in it except name. Civil unions are already failing in the UK with separation rates higher than married couples and they've only been going a short time.

Yes, my Christian faith plays a large part in how I feel about these issues. Why? Because our faith has definite things to say about most issues we face today.
Abortion - We are all created by God, from the moment we are conceived - all human life is precious - only God should decide to end it
Deuteronomy 5:17 (New International Version)
"You shall not murder."
Psalm 139:13-16 (New International Version)
"For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother's womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place.
When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,
your eyes saw my unformed body.
All the days ordained for me
were written in your book
before one of them came to be."
Capital Punishment ("Death Penalty") -
While there is no explicit prohibition on execution in Scripture
(in both OT & NT it was allowed), my belief is that as Christians, every person should be allowed the chance to repent of their sins. Sometimes this repentance/forgiveness process may not come along immediately. God's forgiveness extends to everyone, even the worst among us. Executions may have been necessary in more ancient times to keep law and order, but I do not honestly believe that they are necessary in today's society, or for it's protection. Some Christians will say that the death penalty is OK since it's not expressly prohibited in the Bible, but then neither was slavery - both are examples of things that we have advanced beyond, and actually Christianity and the Bible did have something to do with that, even though there are no exact Biblical cites to prohibit them. (P.S.: I'll freely admit I didn't always feel this way about this one)
Homosexuality - Scripture is pretty clear on this one
Leviticus 18:22 (Amplified Bible)
"You shall not lie with a man as with a woman; it is an abomination."
1 Corinthians 6:9 (Amplified Bible)
"Do you not know that the unrighteous and the wrongdoers will not inherit or have any share in the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived (misled): neither the impure and immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor those who participate in homosexuality,"

well all i can say is about me as a person and im not any religion its much better this way and
abortion-this really is a case by case thing, though i sometimes think it's too easy to get one and because someone doesn't want to give up their carreer yet could otherwise have a healthy child in a loving realationship which seems a bit wrong but then if it's a young teenage girl who's just gotten pregnant by accident its a bit different, but then who am i to tell anyone what do to with their lives and a child is a huge part.
death penalty- you never have the right to take life ever, and the death penalty well it does just that. if you think about it, it is somewhat ironic, your punisment for killing that person is, we are going to murder you. kind of a double standard. if its wrong to create life in a lab then is it not also wrong to end it?
and homosexuality - what ever its not my position to critise anybody for who they are. plus being gay is not really going to affect anyone else. only people with heads so far up their *** that they go round all day saying how wrong it is. it doesn't hurt anybody so what can be wrong here
none of this is in respect to religion but i just let live. i mean you cant for any reason go around interfereing with people's lives.

The Bible is very clear on all of these topics.
Any sort of killing another human , irrelevant of age ,crimes , birth status etc , is not acceptable for a true Christian.
Homosexuality is likewise not acceptable.
Gods standards have NOT changed.
He destroyed the cities Sodom and Gomorah because of their gross sexual and unnatural conduct.
This should be a real wake up call for those that think it is acceptable.
This world is in the power of the wicked one Satan , and his perverse ideas are throughout society , so it is no wonder that 'anything goes'.
1 John 3:6-8 makes it clear what position a person is in if they refuse to turn away from badness.
Finally , only clean , good and moral people that follow the word of God properly will have a secure future.
Others , that prefer Satan's world and its standards will not have such a rosy outlook.
For more information plz feel free to email me.
PS ..gays , don't bother flaming my email.
I tell you the word of God , if you don't like it , take it up with him.

Abortion - against it.
If you didn't want to get pregnant then maybe you should have been more careful or not have sex. If you got raped (that is sad and I am terribly sorry for you)..well an abortion would be a BIG problem for the unborn baby.
Death Penalty- my religion accepts it (but it doesn't say you have to) but as a person I would avoid it. A lifetime in prison is enough.
Homosexuality- against it.

My personal views?
Abortion: I am Pro-Life. If it is a matter of saving the woman's or the child's life, it's not up to me --but God-- to decide that. And if I see a pregnant woman drowning then I'll risk my life to save hers.
Death Penalty: I am Pro-Life. Two wrongs don't make a right.
Homosexuality: It's not my cup of tea. If others choose it then it's their cup of tea.
We are all responsible for our own actions, right or wrong. And not the actions of others.
Peace be with you.

Former Christian here.
Abortion is a personal choice with some hidden negative consequences. You and your aborted fetus are your problem.
Death Penalty is wanted by people of this world, but we would be more advanced without it.
Homosexuality seems kinda gross, but I don't really care what others do in their own bedrooms. I'll treat everyone with the respect and dignity I would like to receive.

i disagree with abortion, my being a christian has nothing to do with it. death penalty, im not really sure on this one. it would be hard to know if one of my family members was sitting on death row. feeling homosexuality is a sin, yes it has to do with being a christian and believing God's word.

Why are these the only three topics to ever come up? Especially, it seems, in the US on Republican platforms.
What about reducing poverty and social responsibility?
What about supporting the working family through funding of childcare?
What about healthcare and the provision for those who can't afford it?
