Hi,
Usually, that happens because you have too many thoughts in your mind. But in some cases, people just cannot sleep.
I will just give you some tips on how to sleep:
1. Do hard exercises before sleeping:
Swimming and thread mill will do. I always feel tired after do that.
2. Eat / drink warm food/drink
I usually eat instant noodles (or any soups), or drink warm milk.
Full stomach yield in more drowsiness.
But, beware of your weight :(
3. Count the baa baa jumping over the fence
Actually, not for me. I just simply counting a number:
1, 2, 3, 4, 5.. it is sooo boring, I even sleep before reaching 200.
4. Turn off the light
5. If you have Air Conditioner, let it blow cool breeze to the room.
Readers may wonder why I do not include the sleeping pill. I am against the use of sleeping pill. Please read the link below about the side effects of sleeping pill.
I am also against reading.. it works sometimes, for the boring book, but if the book is interesting (Especially for reading-freak like me), it becomes hard to sleep before I finish the book :(
Kind regard,
R

Are you staying hydrated? Maybe you could try like 3 or 4 colas at 3 am and just not bother sleeping. Try it a few days and see if you don't get tired enough to sleep all night.
Try some relaxing stretching before bed.
Make sure the room is not too cold or the air too dry.
Drink some relaxing tea beofre bed. Chamomile, hops, .. maybe some valerian capsules. Passionflower. ...
Have a bit of a nosh and go back to bed and meditate.

actually,i do too suffer with the same problem, its midle of the night....really really annoying !!!..the body is also very tired and a bit lazy to make some thing complicated to eat.....
all i can do is drink a cup of warm milk or most of the time i make my self a cup of instant oak meal...you know that type which just add hot and warm water...i find this method really usefull.
so all the things need now is speed, the faster you do it,the faster you get back on bed,so before you lost your sleepyness,u get back on bed...do push it too much or you may get your self injured....accidents:slipping..knock ur head..especially with the hot water.
make it like this ,u know u are going to be awake ..so before you went to sleep ,you prepare it and put it next to bed ...which u can drink it in the midle of the night when you are hungry...and also you can be like me...i ussually drink it just before i close my room's light.
anyway shifting the last meal time wont help much,i think you too know that
anyway, its important to keep a healthy stomach and too as important as sleep does to us. hope you a healthy and a dreammy night ...: )

Try staying up a bit later and eating right before bed. Keep snacks and a drink on your bedside table so you won' t have to move. And talk to your doctor and see if there's a reason for it. I know having to drink alot through the night could mean diabetes

Try having a light snack before you go to bed and hopefully that can hold you until morning. It's not true that you have to stop eating 3 hours before bedtime. Just try having toast and milk, both will help you sleep also.

Before you go to bed eat something in the protein or dairy food groups (think yogurt with berries or turkey and crackers). They should help keep your hunger satisfied while you are sleeping. Be aware that extreme hunger or thirst can be signs of serious health problems and should be discussed with a doctor.

Try to pack in another light meal before you go to bed. Something like a hot chocolate or milk with biscuits.
That would get you back to bed.
For me, I'd prefer a cold beer.

Try a warm glass of milk, read a little bit of something not too exciting, or when you place your head on your pillow, take a deep breath through your nose, exhale slowly through your mouth and gradually relax your body. Don't think too much...
