I knew there were a lot. But, when I'm on this site it's amazing how many there are here. Growing up it seemed like most people were Sunday Christians. Not that devout. If they were religious at all.

Yes the Religion and Spirtuality section. But, I don't hang out in sections. I read the questions on the main board. Anyway, there are other types of Christians besides fundamentalists. Other religions for that matter. But, they fundamentalist seem to be very prevalent.

I'm picking up that some are thinking I'm knocking or judging Fundamentalists. Just making an observation. And, yes I know what a Fundamentalist believes. That's why I'm surprised. It just doesn't seem that way in day to day life. Especially in the past. By the way, my best friend is a fundamentalist christian. But, I am not even religious. We don't talk about religion. But growing up I knew Christians that believed in Evolution. And, they were fine people. Now it seems more believe in biblical creationism.

When you're a fundamentalist of any religion, you tend to be a bit overboard with your beliefs so much so that even others of your own faith may find you over-bearing.
In here, you can spew whatever religious rhetoric you want and feel safe that no one will physically beat you up.

There was government tampering with religion in the 1940's through the 1980's to encourage them not to be Atheist so they wouldn't be as interested in communism. It's the side effect of cultural warfare. Fewer then 1% of all Christians even knew what rapture was at the start of the 20th century and those that did know knew because they made it up wholesale. The tribulation and rapture were not taught in Churches before the 20th century and even then it was an American phenomonon first. It's all a trick and always was.
So said the Holy History books down at the local library. I knew this stuff before people owned digital watches much less computers or the internet.

Do you know what a fundamentalist Christian believes?
In order to do so, you must know the fundamentals of the Christian faith which are the teachings of Jesus Christ. If you do not understand what Christ stands for, what Christ is to all people regardless of race or gender, then I would suggest looking into it and learning what it means to be a fundamentalist Christian before jumping on the emotional bandwagon of the anti-religious crowd...and joining in with the prejudicial misrepresentation of Christianity. (this is not meant to be antagonistic, just matter of fact)
Fundamentalist Christians are the exact kinds of Christians that people would prefer if they knew the difference.
I pray you take the time to try and understand this.
(If you are referring to extremists, such as abortion clinic bombers, or anyone who kills or even hates others in the name of Christ, then you are most definitely not referring to Fundamentalist Christians.)
Take Care
P.S. yes you're right, many fundamentalist Christians, myself included, do believe that God does have the power to do exactly what the Bible says...in exactly the way that it is recorded within. It is only common sense to believe that if God truly exists, and is the Creator of the universe, then He obviously has the power to do anything He wishes to do, regardless what our personal expectations may be. Just because I cannot understand God's mysteries to such an extent to be able to prove them to those who do not believe, I can admit that God is Omnipotent and that if He does exist, then any miracle attributed to Him is certainly within His abilities, and that of course includes creation in 6 days.

Religious fundamentalism has proved throughout history that it can lead to violence on a large scale. Evil men who lust for power will often prey on those who are impressionable to use God as a reason to hate and kill. In this we can find the most despicable sins of mankind.
Strong faith in God evolves along with human knowledge and intelligence. Keeping an open mind in interpreting the Bible can help in building one's faith.
God Bless,
AAD

considering this is a religion and spirituality site I and shocked at how many Christian bashers are on here. I live in the Bible belt where nearly everyone at least claims to be a Christian. On a mile drive you might pass 3 or 4 churches.

They're everywhere. It's kind of like a fireant hill that was near the house. You spray it, it just pops up elsewhere.
Only thing to do is spray a barrier on the side you don't want them, then spray the hill and watch them crawl elsewhere.
Works on mormons too. I just told them I'm Jewish. Now they waddle past the house everytime.

I'm not surprised. Most of these people are only on here for the anonymity, so that they can say whatever religious psychotic stuff they were thinking about all day.

Try challenging the beliefs of those "Sunday Christians," in the same way that beliefs are challenged here, and on top of it, give them anonymity behind a computer screen... then see how many are actually fundies underneath it all.
I'd wager it's far more than you think.

some people who declare to be Christian are extra political than non secular. and that they do no longer understand that they are that way. Jesus in no way belonged to a political occasion and grew to become into in direct opposition to the political powers of the day.
