Your property tax is going to be about 1.1% of sale price of home regardless of the city, BUT with an exception.

Some housing/condo developments have something called a Mello Roos tax district assessment, which means an additonal property tax that can double or tripple your property tax rate. Knowing only the city, without knowing if a particular residence is in a Mello Roos development district, will not help you to know your tax rate. This information has to be disclosed during home sales. A real estate agent will be your best source of information on what developments have Mello Roos districts and which don't.

Some places to see are the Monterery Bay Aquarium and Fisherman's Wharf. Go to Pebble Beach and take the 17 mile drive. It's the most beautiful place on earth. Also, visit Hearst Castle on your way to Monterey. They have a number of tours of the castle. The castle and the drive there is spectacular. If you want to go hiking, visit Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park which has great hiking trails and whale watching. It's about 40 miles south of Monterey on Highway 1.

Look at the County of Los Angeles Tax Collector website. It is the County that collects property taxes.

Property taxes are between 1.25% and 1.50% of the purchase price of the home. So a $500,000 house would be about.....$6250 per year
