Right now I have an industrial and its a 16g because my piercer was all like "aww you're so little and cute" so he decided that a thinner bar would be more appropriate. But now I really want a 14g...does anyone know if its safe to go from a 16 to a 14 once it heals?

its safe... but it will hurt.. you will need to stretch it. it isnt a large stretch.. it will be especially hard since its cartilage. you may need to get it pierced again with a 14g needle.. you cant just shove a piece of 14g jewelry in there since you will damage your ear and the piercing itself!

ive stretched my ears form the standard 20g to a 6 g and 16g to a 14g isnt that big of a jump but i imagine it would still be painful considering its cartilage! i would go back to the piercer and ask him what he reccomends whether it be using a taper or getting it re pierced and having it heal all over again.

good luck!

Wow. No you cannot stretch cartilage. Seriously why did that person get best answer. You know everything about piercings because you have 9 piercings? Guess what buddy I've had over 30 piercings in my lifetime and I'm a professional body piercer. If you wanted it 14 gauge that bad you should have told your piercer before hand. Go to a different piercer next time though. I don't know why any piercer would suggest a 16 gauge industrial piercing. Larger gauges heal quicker and industrial piercings are hard enough to heal.

NO..You can not stretch cartilage! Stretching a lobe piercing is no problem but once you get to cartilage it is a big no no! These people scare me telling you its ok without even probably thinking what an industrial is.
If you try to put a 14g jewelry in a 16g hole it will push the cartilage and not only hurt but you are just asking for a keloid. Cartilage is very sensitive. Pressure from the wrong size jewelry will just ask for cysts and keloids and all kinds of problems.
When you get pierced with a needle they pierce you at a size larger to allow the jewelry to go in easily and allow skin to heal back around the piercing. For example when they pierce someone's cartilage with a gun it pushes the cartilage instead of punching a hole so that's why people often hear why getting pierced with a gun more often leads to keloids and scar tissue.
I've had my industrial piercing for 11 months and its still not quite healed. When I switch the jewelry it gets pissed at me and starts oozing and i got a cyst a few weeks ago. And that's when its the same gauge..
So I would Highly Not recommend it. But if you want a professional opinion go back to your piercing parlor. They are always helpful and know more about piercings than we can. But my guess is that if you want a 14g you might as well take out your piercing, let it heal, and get it re-pierced. Maybe complain to the piercer about them pressuring you into that size when you wanted a 14g and maybe they'll give you it for free...

Do it. The skin would allow stretching because it's healed. It'll hurt though because of the cartlidge.

yea it would be fine. you can stretch any piercing as long as its healed. i know industrials take forevvver to heal... so i dont know when you might be able to do it... might take a few months.
