Sounds like they may be bored and/or missing you. Before they start barking, go out and give them a rawhide chew, stuffed Kong toy, or some other treat that will keep them busy for a long time.
Make sure to do this when they aren't barking, because if you do it while they are barking, they will think that barking makes you give treats.
Making sure they get a lot of exercise and attention during the day can also help, since it will help them be tired and sleep at night instead of barking.
Edit: If you use a bark collar, make sure to get a good one. Some dogs have gotten burned from them. They make citronella spray collars that may be a little safer, especially if the dogs are outside and you're not nearby (dogs hate the smell of citronella).

We have a beagle who was having quite a barking problem when we were out. One of our neighbors is a vet and she suggested that we use a Bark Collar. I wasn't crazy about the idea, but she said they REALLY work and are very humane. We tried it and it worked almost immediately. A bark collar has a couple of short "prongs" (not sharp) that touch the skin of the dogs neck. If they bark, the collar gives them a slight shock. You can adjust the intensity on most collars. The first day we put it on our dog...she barked only ONCE.....got a very moderate shock.....and NEVER barked with the collar on again. When we put it on her, we make a big routine out of it...."Here's your collar....now NO barking" It's gotten so good that we can use a fake collar now....(I just taped a couple of batteries onto an old collar.....it looks similar to the real collar and is about the same weight)Works like a charm. Everyone is happier....the neighborhood is quiet again and our dog is a lot more content. You can get these at most pet stores.

Well, that is a problem with outside dogs. Which is why most people taht live in the city limits can't have em outside.
They could be barking because a squirrel went by, or a possum, or a raccoon, or because they hear another animal barking in the distance.
Unless you want to put bark collars on them, the only option I see is simply bring them inside.
Now - you say they are outside dogs. I won't get into why I think that is bad (as that wasn't part of your question but I do think that STINKS by the way). So why not allow them to sleep in the garage? They will have shelter, you can make them a bed of blankets, they will be kept away from little creatures that make them bark, you can shut the light off and everyone goes nigh nigh. In the morning, you can (said through gritted teeth), send them back outside.

Either find a place inside for them (like a back porch, bathroom, etc) or build them their own little house. There could be a number of reasons that they are barking: they are bored, they miss you, another neighbor dog barks at night....Make them comfortable and a little lighting may help them.
My chihuahua is going blind (she is 12 yrs old) and barks when she goes out at night...I believe she is scared since she can't see well...and maybe thinks she is scaring whatever is out there away!:)
We live in the country but do have a few closer neighbors...they all have big dogs (outside dogs) and each night as soon as it gets dark...ALL the dogs start barking! it is annoying!:)

They 're probably bored and lonely.Could you take them in at night? If you can't then take them for a long walk a few hours before you go to bed. Make sure they have enough water for the night.Get them some Kong toys and stuff them with treats and give them to the dogs at bedtime. When they lay down and start to chew on them, say : "Good dogs" and quietly leave. If they begin to bark, take a pop can with 20 pennies in it ( tab opening taped shut) and toss it out into the yard.or just shake it and say"NO!" After a while, they should learn to not bark as much, but being outside, they are going to hear, see and smell things that will make them bark, and the intact male probably smells females in heat, which makes him anxious.Getting him neutered and exercising both of them everyday should help.

The best answer I can think of is that they're talking to other dogs in the neighborhood. I had that problem with my dog, only she decided on her own (and a little bit of training) that she should stop. It's a protection mechanism that they have, letting everyone know to stay away. My dog is an outside/inside dog. When I'm away from the car, she barks at everyone and everything. Then finally, she stopped barking but only at those that come close to the car AND when she sees me coming back to it. I guess she was telling everyone to stay away. Perhaps, that's what they are doing, talking to each other and other dogs.

Okay...I hope you live where the weather is nice for the dogs all year....but in any case...you can buy those evil electronic bark collars and zap the dogs when they bark...they are pack animals and unless you bring them in with the pack they will naturally bark...my dogs do not like to be in during the day...even in bad weather when I make them, but come 9 they bark to come in...the large one came in the other morning and laid by my son for about 5 minutes before we had an earthquake, then after the aftershocks went right back out...they are protective of the pack.

You need to provide a place inside your home for your pets. Most likely they are barking out of frustration (the one that isn't neutered) and lonliness.
It is unfair to your pets and your neighbors to leave them outside if they bark endlessly. You can be brought to court for this - noise violation. I'm sure they're good dogs - get a kennel and bring them in at night. It's your duty as their owner.

When a dog hears another dog barking, they will bark. Together they bark like passing a conversation. They also can be five dogs barking each other to pass one conversation. My neighbor also has a dog, and every night it will bark non stop. Later I can hear many dogs barking together. They do it every time!!! Maybe your dogs is acting like that every night.

They may be hearing other dogs or noises that they can not identify in the dark or they may simply be bored. Usually moving the dogs indoors (or in a garage) at night will stop the barking.
