When someone asks a question with the word Catholic in it, there is always one or two answers about Priests and Altar Servers.

According to a survey by the Washington Post, over the last four decades, less than 1.5 percent of the estimated 60,000 or more men who have served in the Catholic clergy have been accused of child sexual abuse.[iv] According to a survey by the New York Times, 1.8 percent of all priests ordained from 1950 to 2001 have been accused of child sexual abuse.[v] Thomas Kane, author of Priests are People Too, estimates that between 1 and 1.5 percent of priests have had charges made against them.[vi] Of contemporary priests, the Associated Press found that approximately two-thirds of 1 percent of priests have charges pending against them.[vii] (see link below)

Please do not judge all Priests. many are innocent so why blame them all?

When the catholic church tried to sweep the abuse under the rug is when the big target got painted.. If the catholic church had taken care of the priests instead of protecting them the catholic church would not be such a big target now...

Where are your statistics to back up your comment "No I cannot, what about other Religions, doesn't it happen there? Yes and twice as much!" Unless you have the statistics to back it up it's simly judging all other religious leaders by what a few do...

Don;t make an entire post about not blaming all for what a few do then make an addition as blatantly against what you have just said.. it makes you appear hypocritical and foolish..

Addition:

An unbiased link would be far more persuasive..

Well it does seem to be rife in the Catholic church. Even if they do get found out some just get moved to another parish to continue their abuse. People are getting fed up of it, and the ones responsible should be punished by the law.

Not only that they can be vicious in their schools as well. I know a guy much older than me who suffered at the hands of them. He went to a catholic school in the 1970s and received constant vicious beatings with a cane, and still has some scars.

In one way or another they are responsible for alot of child abuse. All this is coming to light more now. In the past it was for the most part covered up and they got away with it.

Many more than 1.5 percent have particpated in the coverup of child rape, that's why.

Also think about it. Assuming your statistics are correct. If you work in a company that has 500 employees, do you think that at least 8 of them are child molesters? No. And most companies are not based on morality like the catholic church supposedly is. At the company where you work now, how many of the other employees is a child rapist? Let me guess, zero.

Most clergy are trained counsellors, and leaders, not like some freak at the DMV. Comparing this to the "general population" is ludicrous. Can you tell me why so many trained counsellors could not detect abuse even when it was being reported directly to them? Can you?

Are you starting to see why they are picked on right now?

Even one case is too much and you have the audacity to point out statistical percentages. You should be ashamed of yourself.

1 or 1.5 % is a comfortable percentage to you then? How are the victims of these 'fathers' then a much higher percentage?

1.5% x 60,000 = 900
That's still quite a few. One in every 66.6
