Does anyone know if fighter jets, f14, f15 or f16s can be purchased by civilians and used for personal aviation?? obviously unarmed. if so, where do you go about buying something like that? Is there a legal way to get one or would the only way to find one be on the black market??

Yes fighter jets can be bought buy civilians although you will probably need government authorisation if you want to load it up with bombs. I doubt the government will allow that.

Most civilians that buy jets turn them into adventure thrill companies giving customers a once in a life time ride in a fighter jet.

Sure. A civilian owns a small fleet of former Soviet military jets including MiG-29s.

The Navy hires him to fly practice engagements.

You can also buy a Messerschmitt ME-262, the jet fighter that started it all, for the bargain price of $2 million + engines + avionics. http://www.stormbirds.com/

If the Wired article is accurate, you wouldn't want to own an American jet. Soviet jets are built to be maintained by a farm boy in a muddy field. American jets are higher maintenance than Hollywood drama queens. This is why Boeing never made it in the streetcar business, lol!

first you need the proper license, and no one has one because the cost so damn much. The US government has a lot of old jets that are no longer in service like phantoms and crusaders, but if you could afford one you would know where to get one.

No don't even think about it. There are many military secret in those plane and the US gov / military rather destroy the plane before selling it. The last thing they need is enemy learning the weakness to US military planes or buy one and fly it into the another US gov building. Oh come on... just think about it before asking...

But you can get old soviet military Migs on the open market. The actor who played Worf owns an old Mig.

Good luck and good flying.
