Can anyone tell me some good sites to go on to find out about the Amish religion in 2007? In my town they drive vehicles and shop at walmart. So I am trying to find info on the perticular type of religion that allows that.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Well, there are a *lot* of different Amish groups, so your best bet is to just Google "Amish". Some shop at Wal-Mart, and other groups are not allowed to (the color of their buggy denotes what denomination they are in). You might actually be seeing Mennonites-- apparently thy look like Amish but are more lenient in their views. www.religioustolerance.org might have links to good sites.

My horse is from the Amish...if you want a perfect horse, buy an Amish-broke draft.

Beachy Amish are permitted to drive cars. They're sometimes called Car Amish (because they drive cars). Otherwise, young Amish people in rumspringa often have cars, then give them up once they join the church. I suspect that as more and more young Amish have cars, cars will eventually be adopted into more and more Amish communities, but that could be a long time coming. I don't think there's ever been restriction on where they buy essential products, and Wal-Mart may sell some of the things they use less expensively than some other stores.

I want to answer this, but I can't think of the title of the movie. Someone will give it to you I'm sure. It's about how Amish teens are allowed to go into the "real world" to experience what it's like. Excellent movie from the young peoples perspective (mostly)... What is it??... Thank You Omateido!...It is "The Devils Playground"...

try reading some good books by wanda brunstetter or beverly lewis, they are a religion, they have strict rules, but they drive horse and buggies instead of cars, and we all have to shop somewhere, what is wrong with walmart, do you think they know how to make their own trash bags or toilet paper??

Try Yahoo. Type in "Amish beliefs" you'll probably get something.
