One of my guy buds asked my crush what was going on with the 2 of us & why he hadnt asked me out yet and he said we were pretty much already dating cuz he asked me to the homecoming dance. He told my friend that he would talk to me tomorrow cuz he liked me. Then he texted me & asked if we were going to the dance as friends or more. I told him as friends if he didnt like me that way & he said that he didnt wanna hurt me but he didnt feel the same way that i felt about him. He kept going on about how bad he felt about it but i dont want his pity. I was so disappointed cuz he's the sweetest guy i've ever met & he tells me that i'm beautiful & he just tells me all these sweet things so i thought he really liked me. I've never liked anyone this much & now i'm so embarassed for telling him how i feel cuz he doesnt feel the same way. Why would he tell my friend that he liked me & we were dating & then he told me he didnt like me? Why are guys so confusing?? JEEZE!

If I understand the situation correctly, I see nothing wrong in what you told him. You said you would go to the dance with him as a friend.... right? Sounds like to me, the so-called friends of his has messed things up between you two. But he is to blame also for letting them influence his decision to go to the Homecoming Dance with you. What is going on between you and your b/f is not any business of his friends. That's private between you and him. He shouldn't have given his friends info about his and your plans to attend the H/D. He sounds like a "kiss and tell" guy. Wants to go all the way with a girl and then bragg about it to his friends. He was lucky to have you and didn't even know it, seems to me. I'm not sure he is worthey of your affection although I understand that you don't feel that way.

Go with him to the dance and enjoy. Maybe he needs time to get to know u? If he stills doesn't like u after getting to know u then leave him and move on.
