History books tell you what happened in the past, right?

Well the same goes with the Bible, the Bible consists of history books and it tells you what happened in the past.

Do you think history books tell you the truth, stories that have been passed down from generation to generation?

If you do why don't some of you believe in the Bible, it is history?

Well, while the Bible time and time again has proven to be a reliable source of info for me, human history has been unreliable. Some things were taught as history only to be changed decades later. The Bible has stood the test of time and still comes out on the top.

Some say that history is written by the victors.

Is it true? Some people claim it to be.
363CE Council of Laodicea names 26 New Testament books as "inspired word of God"; Book of Revelation was excluded from the list.
BUT IF it were true, then why claim the 'originals' were LOST when the bishops of the time period were asking for them, saying that there were errors?
BUT IF it were true, then why kill off different sects or people that didn't follow them?
BUT IF it were true, then why destroy all other scriptures that contradicted them? (like the gnostic texts)
BUT IF it were true, then why all the revisions and editations of the texts? (like the resurrection being ADDED to MARK in the 5th century)

Hheheeee these actions alone should be enough, but I will add one more based on 'biblical history'.

When did God Un-CONFUSE the WORD to make something like the Bible 'true'? Since in Genesis 11 it says that were was ONLY 1 speech at the time of the Tower of Babel and God confused the language of the WHOLE world.

Hehehee prehaps this is one of the reasons that pretty much EVERY tenent of Chrisitanity is list in the scriptures as an abomination to god...here are a few...

Hosea 13:2 Human Sacrifice as a sin offering---ABOMINATION

Jeremiah 32:35 Offering up such sacrifice on HIGH PLaces, like Mt. Calvary--- ABOMINATION

Leviticus 7:22/ Hos 7:14/ Hos 8:13 Communion---ABOMINATION

Deut 13/ Matt 23:15 Converting People--ABOMINAITON

Oh my god. you really picked a bad example. The truth is that the history books were written by the victors... meaning those in power manipulated what was put in. Just as columbus was portrayed as a saint or very good sweet man... he in reality was known for cutting off hands of native american indians if they did not mine enough gold for him to take back to his country. There is little or no mention in history books about the white house being burned down by the british after the revolutionary war but it happened and you can search for it on the internet... so to get to your point which was religion... oh my god you really messed that up didn't you. The bible was written about 80 years or so after the events took place so how could anyone by memory write the bible and there are so many errors in the bible it is amazing anyone takes it seriously

I believe in history and in the Bible and I believe that in certain areas of history the stories could have been tampered with to make things not so bad.....however I have never found a history book that seems to be that way......Even the christian history books say the same as the ones in public schools however I believe the Bible is the inspired writings of God and therefore are not able to have been false....There is not any thing wrong or bad about God and therefore nothing wrong about His writings

It depends. If I believe that all history books are factual truths? No, not all . But we all know that sometimes history books ( or some part of them ) are not intended to report a fact but a moral truth. For example, the Bible. It reports lot of facts but also metaphors and other similar figures. So, it depends of the kind of truth we are talking about

Many history books give a false account of events and you have to go to a lot of different sources to find the truth.
The bible does contain some history but much of it is mythology and legend , and there are many ancient writings that have been excluded from the bible because they were not considered politically correct by the compilers of the bible.
So the historical accuracy of the bible is very dubious.

History books are usually backed up by other history books and peer review. Errors in the books are corrected or the books are discarded.

Also, the claims made in history books must be reasonable. If it was claimed that George Washington walked on water or Abe Lincoln was god - then those claims would be "questionable".

There are often contadictory versions of "history" as evidenced by the saying "history is written by the victor".

The Bible tells one version of history, which is sometimes supported and other times contradicted by other writings. In ancient times there were no kings that reported anything other than "glorious victories" in battle so we often get reports from BOTH sides of battles claiming "victory".

History as written is inherently unreliable. I can believe that the Bible includes some good RELIGIOUS and MORAL teachings, but so do other writings from those times such as the Delphic Maxims (found carved on the portico of the Oracle of Apollo at Delphi) and Vedic teachings from India.

There are also oral traditions, such as those of the Hopi Indians of the Southwest United States that include moral teachings and state that THEY are history.....

The Bible isn't A history book. The Bible is actually a collection of books and writings. Some of it is historical. It is actually made up of all different literary forms. It has letters, poetry, sermons, worship, songs, laws, and geneaology. It is however a faith history.

I don't really believe in history and I have a valid reason for that. There is a historic figure (a warrior who fight for independence) in my area. We have 3 graveyards claiming that it was his. Of all you know, after sometimes his grandchild claiming (with all valid documents) that he is not resting at all those three places but in other state.

That is why I don't really believe in history and bible too.
