I've heard they are the best dreams that you can have. Almost everyone in my family has had them.... a lot. and i've never experianced one!!!
my dad was telling me that in his flying dreams he has to concentrate really hard in order to keep from losing altitude, and he's had one where he didn't have to concentrate at all it was perfect bliss.
what i've heard from all of my other relatives is "oh they're just so awesome, and wonderful...bla bla bla"

have you ever had a dream where you were flying? what was it like?
AND WHY CAN'T I HAVE ONE? OR HAVEN'T HAD ONE YET? :(

When you dream that you are flying it is usualy due to the fact that you have possible overcome some sort of obstacle. From dream moods flying is "To dream that you are flying, signifies a sense of freedom where you had initially felt restricted and limited." I have had my share of flying dreams and they are all cool. But for some reason they are not like you are able to just fly, for me i usually have to jump to fly, something like that.

Do you usually dream? And are you in a bad state? Have you recently felt free from something? Cleaned the house and felt very accomplished?

Well obviously you need to KNOW you are dreaming before you try to fly, because otherwise you think it's real and would never consider it. If you can realize you are in a dream, flying is all a matter of willpower. Have you seen The Matrix? (If not, see it both so you can understand me and because it's a great movie). You know Morpheus's whole thing about "freeing your mind" and believing that you can do things against the laws of physics? That's pretty much what you have to do, in my experiences at least. You need to strongly believe that you are capable of performing impossible feats since this is a dream. If you have any doubts about it, you won't be able to do it because your mind will be stuck in reality. You have to KNOW you can do it, and that is the only way I have found that works. In dreams that I doubt that ability, I either stand on the ground like a loser, or keep falling off that cliff I just carelessly jumped off of thinking I could fly. Keep on trying and you'll get it eventually!

Shortly after seeing David Blaine do his floating in mid-air trick, I started to have a lot more flying dreams than I ever used to. I'm always so surprised in the dream that I didn't realize before I could fly if I just concentrated my thought on it enough. After this, AND ESPECIALLY after reading about how to learn to control your dreams (lucid dreaming), I started to keep a journal next to my bed and to write down my dream right after waking up. I also began to draw pictures of the things I'd seen in my dreams, and maps of the general landscape. This begins to sharpen your ability to control that brain activity and you will be able to fly AT WILL, eventually. I still can't do it at will, but I have a lot of flying dreams anyway. I've been told that because I'm the kind of person who doesn't even remotely care what other people think of me, and I have a very creative imagination, that this affects my ability to fly in dreams. I think I realized a long time ago that in our MINDS is where we're truly free, and that no one can take that away. This made me a free-spirit, and I believe this has affected it.

I have had lots of flying dreams... Sometimes I will be in an airplane and sometimes I will float around the room, concentrating on not coming down. If I think hard enough I can fly

My airplane dreams always involve dodging power wires and taking up a plane when I didnt have permission... I have solo'd and taken lessons several times in my lifeso that may have something to do with it.

I don't think you can choose your dreams.. Why is this important to you? Maybe you should consider taking pilots lessons if your old enough..

Flying for real is like a dream.

I have had flying dreams, and yes, it can be very spiritual, but it isn't a competition or something, instead of spending your time worrying over whether or not you can have one, keep a dream log and learn how to understand what your dreams have to tell you. Learn how to read your dreams to let them tell you about yourself, and quit worrying about wether you can do something that someone else does in thier dreams, your dreams are unique to you, and chances are that you do things in your dreams that they don't. Just because you don't remember having a flying dream doesn't mean that you don't have one, only that you don't remember it. If you have a flying dream, it will be because it is appropriate for you to have one, but if you ignore all of your other dreams obsessing over it, you will miss out on many riches....

I don't really have flying dreams as such. Instead I have gliding or skating dreams.
I don't fly up into the air or zoom across great and majestic landscapes, but I find myself standing to the point of being on my tiptoes and speeding along just one inch above the ground.
Other times I find myself sitting on the air and just shifting around that way.

I had to learn to hypnotize myself and/or meditate to have a flying dream at first. Generally having to propel yourself or do extra work to stay afloat says that you feel things in your life weighing upon you, holding you down. To fly free in your mind is the same as believing you can and experiencing it for a while. So yes, it's pretty awesome. =) Fast and low over green rolling hills is my preference.
