Small companies are likely to put you in a higher position at a lower salary than big companies.

Big companies will require that you start at a lower position than you desire at a lower salary.

You have to keep applying, keep working. People who are impatient for the perfect job often never get one. Instead start low, start in a small company and work hard for your future.

I suppose a good place to start would be determining an area of interest. It is good that you know what you are not interested in doing, but much thought should be given to what you think you would like to do. A great place to get information on potential career paths is from a college academic adviser. Most colleges allow you to speak with an adviser for free, and they can determine your intellectual strengths and point you in some possible directions. Of course, they normally like to speak only with potential students, but you claim to be a bright student, so I assume you are attending a school somewhere. Check to see if there is a business office. Also, you might try a bookstore, there are many different references for job types, pay scales, duties, etc. Finally, if you have any special skills or hobbies that you excel at, such as fixing machines, working with computers, or are good with people you might be able to make money simply doing what you are good at until you find exactly what you want to do. In all, I don't think a lot of people do know what they truly want to do, but we all keep looking and hoping! Good luck!
