I'm just a college dude who spends like $11-13 on my hair in a Asian hair salon. Do I have to tip ? I mean, if I tip one or two dollars that's kinda weird cuz it's like so little money. By percentage wise it seems to be reasonable....any input??

i would definetly tip your hairdresser. That is how we make our living. I use my tip money to pay for my grocery's. I wouldn't be able to survive without it. Standard tipping is 15-20% . It is very rude not to tip unless they did a horrible job. But then again you get what you pay for.

Yes you do. It is rude and not proper etiquette to not tip. Two -3 dollars would be about the norm for this price. The only time I would give less is if they ruined my haircut...then I'd talk to the manager and my tip would reflect that if I gave one at all. Usually a manager will want to make things right and maybe offer another haircut or fix it herself or himself for free.
If the $11-13 is too much for you, go to a school type setting where they are just learning. Yes.........I have been to these and have even gotten a better haircut then the salon. They are supervised and up-to-date on hairstyles.
Another option is to have a relative or friend cut your hair or maybe.....if you are talented enough.you could do it. You need the proper equipment though. I used to cut my twin sons hair for years and my ex-husbands with electric hair trimmers that have different ends to cut different lengths. I trimmed also with a good pair of barber scissors. I don't recommend doing yourself unless you know what you are doing.
So....YES to tipping!

Yes, you should tip and yes, otherwise it seems rude. Individually, it might be much but if they can cut 10 people, they might match their salary. If you hate them and thought they did a bad job and will never go back - $2 is okay and if your hair is short but if your hair is long and they are doing styling - you should tip $3. If you want to save a couple bucks and your hair isn't complicated, look around for a beauty school to save some on the haircut still top $2 to $3. And when you get out of school & work, then $4-5

people tip anywhere from a dollar to 20 dollars... it just depends... It is nice to get a tip no matter how little because a stylist that is renting a booth gets to keep the tips tax free where as her base amount has a percentage taken out that goes toward the booth rental... I would tip even if it was only a dollar... At least it shows you are pleased...

ok have you ever worked at a job where you make tips? most people who do live on there tips because there pay is very little.one or two dollars can make a difference. just think if you serve 10 people and each one gives a dollar then that's ten bucks that can go in the tank or for your kids to have milk or something. Also depends on there serve if they do there job right or not. And as a student if you can afford it

yeah..every once in two month i go to Chinese salon since m in hong Kong..and it charges about $50-100..and every time after cutting my hair i give $100 and they give me back change..and like should i gave tips..and the other way i think huh why should i when m also running out of money since i do part-time job only and i still need to college..but picking up all the money from the small plate i feel so cheap that i didn't gave any tips.

.it always happens should i give or not..i didn't still get the answer..but from what i think its okay even if you gave tips or not..since they get the money for cutting your hair already..and what i think is its okay even if you give 1-2 dollars..

If you are only spending $12 for the cut, you should tip at least 15-20%, so ya, you are tipping the average...but for girls the same rule should apply, so for a $100 or $175 service you should be tipping at least $25...

Generally, hairdressers only get a percentage of the reciepts, the rest go to the salon owner. It is appropriate to tip, the general rule of 10-20 percent would be acceptable.

One or two dollars may seem like only a little, but those small tips do add up with all the customers they see. A hairdresser at a place like Fantastic Sam's or Supercuts (or any place like it) doesn't make much at all, so if you can afford it, and the haircut is decent, just leave a couple bucks extra. He or she will appreciate it.

It is customary to tip even when getting a hair cut. Most people who work in hair salons or barber shops work for only tips so if you don't tip they make no money. They are in a sense just like a waiter or waitress.
