definitely. I love being able to make a fresh start. But you usually end up falling back into your old ways and end up acting like your "new" friends expect you to.

Yeah, I totally know what you mean. And FYI, that feeling doesn't subside after you graduate from college. I think life can be a constant battle between conforming to other to be accepted and trying to express your true self at the same tiem. The fact is, it's just not worth changing yourself just to "fit in" with people who won't accept you unless you act a certain way. Sometimes I wake up in the morning and tell myself "today I will be different." In other word, today I will say what I want to say and do what I want to do and trust my genuine feelings. But by the end of the day I often find myself failing to acheive this goal.

Anyway, I truly believe that people can start fresh, whether its a new day, new hour, new minute or second. Starting new with the idea of trying to improve you life is a great thing and is also a constant struggle. I think it's great that you're aware of this though. Trust your own feelings and act upon it. If you think you need to make new friends, why not, do it!? Whatever, it is you're looking for, I hope you find it.
All the best.

There are lots of people who would love to go somewhere else and start over. Everyone sometimes just wishes they could wipe the slate clean and give it another go. It's usually a sign that you are not happy with what is going on in your life right now, or you are under alot of pressure. Counseling and peer to peer mentoring can be great ways to deal with this. Also you may not believe this...........your parents might just understand if you give them the chance to hear you. (HA there goes my chance for best answer here! lol )

Yes, I have felt that way. I say just try being YOU a little more. Worry less about what others think of you. This sort of problem will haunt you for the rest of your life if you don't deal with it now. It only gets harder later on, trust me.

Hi there!
Well.. I think there are 2 possible answers to your question.

#1
Maybe you have been living your previous days/years/time of your life following your parents or some other person who has an influence in your life. They have known you for that kind of attitude, character or way of acting things. Now that you have realized what you want and you want to do what you want, they find it different from the "previous" you that they have come to know. For example, if you always wear your hair in such a fashion for so long and you just tried to do it differently this time, they find it "not you". It's because we, as humans, are creatures of routine and patterns. We like living in some kind of routine or pattern all of our lives. So people would tend to know you according to that pattern that you previously showed them.

#2
Maybe.. you encountered something that you think is "you". Like when we watch movies or read books and we associate ourselves with the character or characters of that film or book. We tend to "fashion" our lives in their way of living, acting or in their attitude. We may think that's "us" because we admire their attitude. Unknowingly we may do this so we can admit it or not. Here's one example: Ever watched a movie and liked a character on that film that after you have watched it, you wanted to dress like them or act like them.. even speak like them? If yes, then you unconciously adapted their character and in some degree lost your own individuality.

The bottomline to all of this is that someone had an influence in your life. It may be conciously or unconciously and we have accepted it and adapted it in our lives. Hope you understand it. Don't worry, everyone undergoes this dillema. :)

yes and even though i know you can't run from your problems i often want to move out of the area so i don't have to run into people from my past because i am not the same as i used to be yet i feel like i still have to act that way.

I think everyone goes through a little identity crisis sometime in their life but it is your choice to be who you want to be not someone else. They will eventually get used to it if you want to dress, look or act different. People change.

As hard as it may sound, just be yourself. True friends will like you for you no matter what. It gets better as you get older. This is just a phase, trust me, but always stay true to yourself.
