I agree that the WBC garners more attention than the rest and is the most respected by boxers. I use the word "respect" very loosely here because all the Alphabet Bandits are corrupt as hell. However, I would like to correct Hot Rod fom above when he says that the WBA is the oldest. The National Boxing Association is actually the oldest and was the first recognized world title when it comes to a governing organization. However, of the sanctioning org's listed in the question, the WBA is the oldest.
Zyberianwarrior was incorrect in stating that the WBO belt was the one dumped into a trashcan. That was actually the WBC belt. Undisputed champ Riddick Bowe trashed that belt in 1992 because the WBC is notorious for placing underqualified fighters into mandatory positions. In this case, an untested Lennox Lewis was named #1 challenger to the title and Bowe said publicly that he could make more money fighting better opposition such as Michael Moorer or George Foreman. So, the WBC (who was being controlled by Don King at the time) decided to strip Bowe of the title. Bowe beat them to the punch by dumping the strap into a trashcan on TV.
One of the many low moments of the WBC's storied legacy.

Out of the top four the WBO is the least prestigious and for a long time wasent recognised in many countrys but has recently become more recognised and respected. Out of the other three WBA, WBC, IBF the WBC seems to be the most prestigious, as especially a decade or so back it seemed to be the title all the really big name fighters wanted to win. Nowadays that is not so much the case, and its not so much the title that makes the fighter but the fighter that makes the title.

WBO is and has been a joke for some time. Remember the title in the garbage can incident?
WBC and IBF are far more respected. But while the WBC does have some well known named title holders the IBF is the better organization and is the one more recognized as the true division title holder.

In today's Boxing world the
1.WBC is considered the most prestigious followed by
2.WBA (which by the way is the oldest of them all)
3.IBF, and 4.WBO (just started getting some credibility)
but to answer your question the WBC title holder is usually considered the champion of the division

All of them, including the WBA which you forgot to mention, are the governing bodies of boxing in the world so there's really no difference among them. The top 3 are the WBC, WBA and IBF. The WBC is considered to be the most prestigious though the other two aren't far behind. WBO is relatively new so it's still trying to find its niche.

Including the WBA, these are the most recognised sanctioning bodies in boxing. The oldest is the WBA (World Boxing Association) which was previously known as the NBA (National Boxing Assocation). It changed its name around 1962. The WBC was formed in 1963. Both the IBF and WBO are splinter groups of the WBA. The IBF (then the USBA) left the WBA (under Robert Lee) in 1983 and the WBO broke away in 1988. All four are recognised as legitimate sanctioning bodies in most countries but the Ring magazine only recognises the WBA, WBC and IBF and I believe Japan and South Korea only recognise the WBA and WBC.

Each has their own champion in each division; these are the world titles. The most prestigious would probably be the WBC because they've been around the longest I think. That and pretty much all the major champs have held the WBC.

Definitely WBC......I read a book years ago entitled " Jim Norris & the decline of Boxing " which exposed his crooked business interests as a boxing promoter in the 1950s . I believe that he may have also run the old IBF & I know that he was heavilly involved with Mafia fight managers such as Blinky Palermo & Frankie Carbo who managed many fighters in the '50s.

I think the ring title is the most prestigious, those others hold pretty much the same weight but the WBO has the least amount of cred

There's no way the IBF is more recognized than WBC as the true divsion champion. How the hell could you say that?
