1. Can I sign up my sophomore year in college and take it? I didn't sign up freshman year and regret it.

2. What can I do to prepare for becoming an officer? My run time is 19:30 to 22 min for 3 miles. I am physically fit and moderatley strong though I could improve my strength. Any tips?

3. Can I still call myself a Marine?

4. Do I still get to wear the blue uniform with the white hat?

5. Is it a lot better than going in as a plain, enlisted Marine Reserve? What are the benefits of doing that over enlisted?

6. What do you have to do during the Summer and can I fit that in with school? Enlisted Marine Reserve I heard requires 13wks and I can't fit that in the Summer without it overlapping into school.

Thanks for your answers. 10pts to whoever can help me out on all these questions.

I don't think you guys understood #3 or 4. I meant when you DO become a Officer, can you call yourself a Marine and do you get the blue uniform with white hat, like the reg Marines?

1. I believe so but check with a USMC NROTC advisor to be sure.

2. Study leadership principles, a lot. Tips? talk to an OSO (Officer Selection Office), they will give you plenty of tips and written materials on how to get your pull up count up, advice on getting your sit up count up, and your run time down.

3. Only once you're commissioned.

4. You will be a commissioned officer...same as any other butter bar.

5. Enlisted and officer are two completely different breeds of Marines; both have their advantages depending on what you want to do.

6. Not sure about what, if anything, NROTC Marine option do during the summer. 13 weeks seems like a lot since OCS is only 10 weeks (or two 6 week sessions).

If there's anything you need some help with, shoot me an e-mail. I have plenty of workout programs, book recommendations, and more.

1: Yes
2: alternate Cardio with strength training 5 days a week. Lots of water. No drugs or smoking.
3: NO. you haven't earned the title.
4: NO. you won't find out if you were accepted until your Senior Year, and then you STILL must go through OBC before you earn the Title and permission to wear the uniform.
5: Depends on what you want. Do you want to lead/manage? than go Officer. Do you want to get your hands dirty on the equipment? than enlist. Benefits include more pay and more responsibility straight out of the gate.
6: ROTC candidates do a Summer Cruise between their Junior and Senior Years. If you choose to enlist, you WILL be missing some school.
