I applied for a job in accounts on a whim because I'm currently studying that field. I found out today that I've got the job. The only problem is my current job probably has no idea I'm looking to quit. I really like the people and being a smaller workplace we're all quite close. I just feel horrible about leaving and i dont want to actually do the act of quitting whats the nicest way to quit? I'm looking to stay on for another 2weeks until my next job starts.... theres nothing really wrong with my job i just liked the idea of a different one. I was considering saying that the job was offered through uni to everyone in my course and I applied out of interest and wasnt expecting to get the position considering I was up against other students in my course (this is a lie i found if on a job site ) :/ any help would be appreciated.

Yahoo! actually had a good article on this subject a few weeks ago.

If you are quitting for more money or a place with better job advancement and benefits this is what I would tell your current employer. If it is just a diff. job with not much change then I would just stay where you are happily working. I do not know what the policy where you work is, but a lot of places will not let you give a 2 weeks notice and will let you go. You might want to make sure you can afford that just in case.

You do not need to tell were you found the job. Just say that you need to give a two week notice and tell them that you have enjoyed working with every one. It just time to move on. There is always a replacement, maybe not exactly like you but they will find someone. As long as you are sure you already have the other job then give a two week notice.

Give 2 weeks notice! It's the right thing to do. You can remain friends with the coworkers. No one keeps a job forever and if the new one is in the field you are studying in your co workers should be happy for you. Anyone can be replaced, it just may take them a while to find someone so give notice asap.

They are your friends.

They will give you a big hug and maybe buy you a present and think that what you are doing is a good move.

Don't feel so bad. You are going to new opportunities, and the world is constantly changing. If you don't change then the world will change around you and you will be like a boat that has missed the tide.

Hand in your notice at once. Simply say that you have found a position in the field you are studying.

Dont lie about it. Your workmates will understand your reasons.
