If there are no restore points on the pc, then you will not be able to restore the pc back to a date that is suitable for you. Most often, system restore does not get rid of viruses. What type of anti-virus software are you using? Do you happen to know the name of the virus?

Go to Start>All Programs>Accessories>System tools>System Restore. You may not have a good restore point for it to go back to though.

Before you do that though, try AVG(free) anti-virus(1st link ) and if it doesn't work then go ahead and system restore but the virus will probably still be there.

Your system automatically restores certain things and is probably restoring the virus after you delete it.To stop it from doing that, turn off system restore,right-click on My Computer>Properties>System restore tab and check the box to turn off restore.
You will lose any restore points you have saved so make sure it is your last ditch effort not what you try first.
Once you do that you can run your anti-virus and clean up any viruses etc.. then reboot your machine, go back and turn on System restore monitoring, so that you can always go back and restore to an earlier date if needed.

I gave you a link to the anti-virus software site and also one that will walk you through setting up a restore point for the future but don't set a restore point until you have the viruses off your computer.

Good Luck to you

You can only restore to a date that you had created a restore point. It do not really work for virus. The only and downright way to get rid of the virus is to do a system recovery but before that you should back up your important files.

Frist off if you feel you have a viris, to reid your computer of that ! look on your Yahoo tool bar, Go To ( the yellow i con that says ! Yahoo Anti-Spy, and follow the instructions. It will tell you what viris you have and how meny you have. follow the instructions after the scan to remove the viris. You"ll have to restart you computer after this is complete. ( System Restore ) Is found in 5 steps. #1 go to start, #2 go to all Programs, #3 go to accessories, # 4 go to system tools, #5 go to system restore.( Note ) when you loaded windows Xp in you computer and did not set a restore date you do not have a restore date, so you will need to set a date, so todays date would be a good one. (Not ) if you do not turn off your restore date be fore you run the viris check the viris will come back if you use the date that is there now.

I have never solved a virus problem with system restore. For some reason it never works. Sounds like you don't even have a restore point to restore from... Put in your HP recovery disks and do a reformat and reload your operating system....Forget System restore.
