Till you choose not to. I never spent the extra money on Dreft. I always just washed my infant clothes in a separate load and you don't even really have to do that. The only reason to use a special detergent in my book would be if the infant is having some kind of skin reaction to certain detergents.

Most of the people who have answered this are right. The only reason Dreft is out there is for babies with very sensitive skin. My son is 4 months old and i still have a bottle of Dreft that i use only because I still have it from when he was born. Sometimes I wash his clothes in with ours only because i know he is not allergic. Just be careful!!!

I never used Dreft, although I hear it's a good product for baby's clothes. I used Seveneth Generation dye-free, perfume-free detergent. I think it really only matters that you use something that is gentle and doesn't contain harsh ingredients. My sister uses ALL free and clear and just uses about half of what she normally would use in a load. And I have friends who use regular detergent but only very little when washing their baby's clothes, and always make sure to do an extra rinse.
My son is 19 months old and I still buy and use the gentle stuff. Just makes me feel better.

Well I've actually read that there is really no need to wash your baby's clothes in dreft but dreft would never want you to know that!!! It really all depends on your baby's skin. Some babies have no skin allergies and never need their clothes washed in it.
What I would do is wash one of your babie's onesies or something like that that would be close to the skin in with a load of your laundry. After wearing the outfit if there is no problem I would do it with a few other items to make sure and if there are no skin allergies feel free to wash the clothes with big people's soap.

I never used dreft to wash my son's clothes. it was toooo expensive for the little bottle. I always used Tide...and never had any issues. I think it is just about as safe as dreft. It is also a little more expensive than some brands, but it gets the clothes clean and is pretty safe to use. Try that if you are still a little worried. I think you may be pleasantly surprised.

We never used Dreft. I have sensitive skin anyway and I use a natural, allergenic free detergent that I get at Trader Joes. It has been fine for our baby as well. If you are using Dreft, you probably don't need to do so after 6 months.

I didn't use dreft for my daughter but two weeks b/c she was allergic to it...and I found that I washed her clothes alone with half of the normal amount of gain that I used in our clothes and she didn't break out...So I didn't even start using dreft when my son was born..I just did the same thing w/half the gain and he never had skin issues either.

I never started out washing either of my son's clothes in Dreft, or any other special detergent. They were always just thrown in with the rest of the laundry. However, my youngest has more sensitive skin(which we have discovered since his birth), so I washed his clothing seperately in a free and clear detergent for a few months, at which time I started testing washing his clothes in regular detergent again. He has been totally fine since he was about 6 months old.

there's really no need to wash a baby's clothes in dreft. Little babies are more likely to have sensitive skin and could have a reaction to normal detergent. My son is 13 months and has super sensitive skin so I have to be careful to get detergent with no dye or fragrances in it. Some babies will never have a reaction and you can use normal detergent from the start. And then there's people like my gramma who will never be able to use normal detergent without having a reaction. everybody's different.

I never washed in Dreft. My oldest is now 7 and my baby is 4 months. I always use a cheaper "free & clear" or allergen fighting detergent. BTW, I use cloth diapers and wash them in the same detergent & my baby has never had a diaper rash, so it is definitely not irritating to her skin.
