The top of the cadavers skull is sawed off and the brain is removed, weighed, and examined but the whole head is not cut off.

I don't think they do that in real life!, they only open the head to examin the brain to see if there is any abnormalities then they weigh it, take tissue samples then put it back. You saw that in a poster for a movie...so they try and make it more gorry by presenting it that way.

No, it is normal to cut through the skull, that way the brain could be analyzed. However the head is not cut off, so that the body is still acceptable for a funeral.

i witnessed one.

No, the head is not detached. The skull, however, is opened. I haven't seen the poster you mention, so I don't know what the picture looks like.

Yeah, if there is a suspicion of rabies, they will cut its head off and send it to a pathologist to be examined. That is for an animal...as for a human, I'm not so sure.
