I live in Taiwan and can tell you with 100% certainty that the US has no military bases in Taiwan. There haven't been since the 1970's.
This was part of the negotiations the US made to pave the way for mutual recognition of the USA and the PRC.
Or, do you mean something else? Do you mean why doesn't the American military get out of the Taiwan issue? Like in the 1996 third Taiwan straight crisis when the US navy intervened. That was exercising of the Taiwan Relations Act. The TRA is a DOMESTIC law of the United States. You might ask, why is the US using a domestic law for an international situation? Well, it's not international: Taiwan is legally US territory.
If you understand international law, then you would know that with the signing of the San Francisco Peace Treaty, that the Taiwan cession, while in its interim status, has its territorial sovereignty held in trust by the United States Military Government. The US is the primary occupier and they have delegated the occupation to the ROC. This relationship is still active.
The US still holds title to Taiwan territory. Its ultimate status is still undetermined.
Under the US authority of the SFPT, the ROC is in administrative control of Taiwan, but since they are a government in exile of China (starting in 1949), they can NEVER be the legitimate government of Taiwan. Taiwan is NOT part of the ROC's territory. It is strictly illegal for a government in exile to ever become the legitimate government of the country where they are "guests". In 1946 the ROC forcibly made all Taiwan people (at the time still citizens of the Japanese empire) into ROC citizens en masse. That was a war crime. The people of occupied territories have rights under the Geneva convention. Therefore their ROC citizenship is not valid.
So the ROC is not qualified to be a country. It does not have territory and it does not have a permanent population.
Since the PRC bases their claims to Taiwan on the ROC's claim (since they are the successor government of China). Therefore China has no - claim - at - all.
Until the SFPT is replaced by another international treaty, Taiwan will remain unincorporated territory of the United States indefinitely.
So your question should not be "Why doesn't the American military get out of Taiwan?" rather it should be "Why doesn't the ROC get out of Taiwan?" or better yet "Why doesn't China stop pretending that they have claim to Taiwan?"

In my beliefs, I believe that China will end up negotiating the control of Taiwan from the US similar to how China was able to reclaim Hong Kong. In time, the US military will be out of Taiwan.
Now if you are asking for the US companies to get out of Taiwan, I can tell you with 99% accuracy that it will not happen in the near future. Taiwan is a wealthy nation, and right now, America and China are doing a lot of business together, which is greatly helping the Chinese economy and American businesses.

It is extremely rare that the US military EVER leaves once it is in place in any region of the world !! And, it has to be for some outrageous reason when it happens -- like the pullout in Vietnam by Nixon when he got his butt in too deep with Watergate and HAD to do something to try and remove the major heat off his rump !!!
TO the poster that says "we don't have military bases there" -- that doesn't mean we ain't there -- because -- we are !!!
And, it is laughable -- these posts that talk of the threat of mainland China to Taiwan !! The USA and its private businesses are doing landslide business WITH mainland China --- Walmart alone is doing billions in business with them as we speak --- we actually have microchips that were made in China in some of our military hardware !!! There is open travel and trade on record scale going on with these people --- THEY OWN AN OUTRAGEOUS AMOUNT OF USA MARKET DOLLARS for God's sake and are being allowed to trade and buy them on an open market !!! Open your eyes and brains !!!
And, when it comes to "leaving" -- well, we are still in Japan, Korea, Bosnia, Germany, ect ect ect --- we simply NEVER LEAVE --- we go in to "liberate" people and "make them democratically independant" and, then, we never leave !!! What's up with THAT ???
