Get the church up, worry about the school later. Is this the correct priority?

"Moderation", you are free to post any question you like. If you don't like a question don't answer it and then tell that person what they should have asked. If you feel a question should be asked, by all means ASK IT. Don't be an idiot, though, and answer a question and in the same breath say the question is not worth asking.

There has been a lot of controversy about the construction of the church, and a lot of the parishioners don't even like what they consider to be a waste of money. Personally, I love the older churches instead of these modern horrors, so I'm not exactly unbiased against things like this cathedral.
I think the money would be better spent on the school, but there again, I'm a tad prejudiced when it comes to providing the best education possible for our kids.

What is your point. The Catholic church lost it's cathedral and is building a replacement. Hardly a story. Two different bank accounts I believe. Two different bureaucratic structures to spend and raise money - right? Does anyone actually get hurt, no. When a priest says they are working with priorities - I guess he is lying.
Ah well. No one is stopping anyone from gathering together and finding the money I am sure through that people want to buy their yachts and other material stuff - when they could build anything they want for their faith. Seems like people want their cake and keep their money - no story there. Typical human behavior.
Yawn.

First you find a place to worship. I know of situations where they had no school and no place to worship in the beginning. They rented space, for both in the basement of a local restaurant. The next step was a small school. They worshiped in a classroom, and then in a small cafeteria. And so it grew.
In the Catholic school, children are taught that they are citizens of this world and also the next. I think that Catholic schools have turned out good people generally, whether they are garbage men, wall street tycoons, or members of the judiciary or the legislature.

i'm not catholic, so i hope you don't mind me answering this...
it's a tough call, really. people need a place to worship, but they also need schools, of course. i can see how the rcc could justify this though. the case could very easily be made that the church helps people get their priorities straight, which would perhaps lessen the immediate need for another catholic school. the case could also be made that while only the youth (primarily, of course) could benefit immediately from this new school, the building of a new church could draw in more new converts, and thus provide more funding for the construction of the new school. it's a tough decision, but i'm sure it's one that has been given much careful consideration.
edit- ''it's [religion] not going to help us get ahead in our physical lives...''
if that were true, it would be hard for me to hold strong to my christian faith.

I think worship is very important, but so is school. The priority I have for my child is school first, although he is encouraged to pray at bed time.
I think people should focus on spending money on schools because what religion is important it's not going to help us get ahead in our physical life, only in our spiritual life. Given the choice I'd put money in our school systems before I put money into a worship building.

i think it's just too expensive
they're showing that pride of having beautiful church is more important than educating society.
or maybe they think they can use church for teaching
the church is big enough to be school, anyway
