We recently got an 8 pound chihuahua. He is so little and clean that we have no problem with him sitting or sleeping on our couches and beds. Are there others of you out there who allow their animals to use the furniture?

Nope he sure doesn't.

He has a futon in the Den that is his. Otherwise he has foam pads he sleeps on on the floor in the livingroom, bedroom, office and spare bedroom.

I have a 125 lb Newfoundland and she sprawls on the couch as does the 65 lb Australian Cattle Dog. The Smooth Fox Terrier finds a hole in there and the Doxie is 19 years old and I never let him on furniture because it is so hard on their little spines but he has a bed in my office, the bedroom and the living room. The cats sleep on the back of the couch and I'm the one in the middle of the floor watching tv. When company comes I ask them to get off the couch and they never mind moving. I do forewarn people that I am permitted to share the house with them and the animals were there first. The trick is at bedtime to get in before they pile in or there's no getting under the covers. I've taken to bringing a spare blanket to bed with me so I have something with which to cover myself.

Nope. My dog isn't allowed on the furniture at all. He's a 4 month old German Shepherd puppy and we're expecting him to be somewhere around 90 pounds at maturity. I personally wouldn't mind him cuddling up with me on the couch but to be considerate of the other people living in my house I don't allow it.

My 65lb Yellow Lab is a "People" Dog. He doesn't have a clue he's a dog and thinks he is a member of the family (Which in fact he is...lol) We live in "His" house. He even has his own plate for parties and wouldn't think of sniffing anyone elses food or plate. He has his own goggles to wear, and his own seat belt and harness for taking a car rides so he doesn't get bugs in his eyes.He has his own big cedar bed but has his place reserved in my/his king size bed. He sits where he pleases and lets me sit in my own lazy-boy on occasion. I guess the answer he is YES..He sits on the furniture....Why not. I tell my guests,my home is not a museum, my furniture is not for show, it's to be sat upon.

depends on which one of my dogs want up. the mini poodle is always on the furniture and/or in bed with a family member. The pups are not allowed on the furniture (growing physically and mentally, so it's a no-no) grown dogs, only if invited.

Yep - in fact, I just went and bought a sectional couch - 10 feet long in one direction, 11 feet in the other so all three dogs, my roommate and I and of course - the cat - could all fit.

Ok, I didn't buy it FOR the dogs, I bought it for me, but they get the benefits!

And mine don't sit, if they did, more people would fit - mine stretch out as llloooooooooooooooooooooonnnng as possible taking up more than a couch cushion per dog. Those little rascals . . .

I used to let my cocker spaniels go on the furniture. My dog now is a humungous St Bernard. He isthe size of a man, so not really...altho he does lift up his hip and sits on it on the couch and futon that way...He does make room to sit by him this way! But to lay on furniture there would be no room! But he is worth his weight in gold, he makes me laugh alot!

I do. But we have a little dog too. I grew up with big dogs who were not allowed on the furniture but could sleep with us. I think most of the time people with small dogs allow them on furniture and people with big dogs don't.

Yes my dogs (Dachshund, Mini Doberman, Pug and a Pig mix with Boston Terrier) is living in our house with us. They are sitting on the furniture - sleeping with us in our beds.
I give my dogs every weekend a bath and a good brush. Nothing wrong with them.

Yes, I have a 100lb lab and a small sheltie mix and there's nothing better than snuggling on the sofa or the bed. My lab usually prefers to sleep on the floor where it's cooler but every morning when he wakes up he comes and snuggles till I'm ready to get up.

I've got a 100lb lab, and 50lb bel mal, they both enjoy the furniture. Sure the couch gets a little crowded with all three of us up there, but who doesn't like cuddles?
