And it is We Who have constructed the heaven with might, and verily, it is We Who are steadily expanding it. (Qur'an, 51:47)

Until the dawn of the 20th century, the only view prevailing in the world of science was that "the universe has a constant nature and it has existed since infinite time." However, modern research, observations, and calculations carried out by means of modern technology have revealed that the universe in fact had a beginning and that it constantly "expands."

C. L. Richardson, even if I agree with you, then can you explain to me how the Quran didn't get any of the Many Mistakes and Contradictions that are in the bible, if it was truly copied from it? How did Mohammed (pbuh) know which verses to ''steal'' and which ones to leave out ???

profoundtomato, I guess you'd know more than someone who has a PHD in the field :

It has been a great pleasure for me to help clarify statements in the Qur'an about human development. It is clear to me that these statements must have come to [Prophet] Muhammad [saas] from God, or Allah, because most of this knowledge was not discovered until many centuries later. This proves to me that [Prophet] Muhammad [saas] must have been a messenger of God, or Allah.274 (Dr. Keith L. OMAR_X786, Heaven has been used to refer to The Sky or the Atmosphere in more than a dozen verses. Why do you think none of the people above you critisized this or tried to prove me wrong using this arguement, don't waste my time with this kind of sh*t

Why does everyone think that people long ago knew nothing, there is evidence of intelligence going back to the Ice Ages. God gave us brains and ,believe it or not, people have been using them. Well, some have. There were people in ancient Greece who knew about atoms. Do you think they were divinely inspired?

yes and the quran also says the sun comes out of mud on earth.

Please.. De Vinci knew about helicopters and tanks before they came to be that did not make him a prophet of God.

Albert Einstein figured out a lot more complex things then the fact that the universe is expanding. Some of these FACTS were proven after his death. He did not claim to be a prophet of God or "divinely Inspired"

You are looking for things in the Koran that simply are not there. You made up your mind and you trying to justify your position. (not your fault its the way human minds work)

You're assuming that what you think of when you read the word "expands" is the same as what the author meant. Also, what is the word in Arabic, and does it have any other connotations in that language?

I don't know about that, but you can find the 4 elements needed to create life in the Bible.
Genesis 1:1 says "In the Beginning (time) God (force) created (action) the heavens and the earth (matter.)

Interesting that God chose to make that the first verse.

*laughs* ...

yes, this is the same scientific book that claims man was formed from a clot of blood.
but was it... human blood? isn't that some sort of paradox?

-- Keith Moore again? Do you guys just go to one website or what? Why should the koran need any clarification?
That all you guys do is clarify, you "clarify" until something fits and ignore everything that doesn't.
In the end, your book is not science
if you want science, read a text book- or you can keep deluding yourself, until someone else plays another practical joke on you like 60 cubits tall adam and you make a fool of yourself..

Here is a website that goes over many of the Qur'ans miracles. It's written for non-Muslims, and is enjoyable.

For those who doubt, I highly suggest this site. You can order a booklet that has all the site's information in it. It's a thin booklet, light and easy to transport. That way you aren't tied to the computer in order to read this stuff. It's an easy and quick read, but packed with great stuff!

Hey, I am a Muslim.

I have a lecture for everyone who wants proof of Almighty God. It is by the brilliant Muslim scholar, Dr. Zakir Naik. He proves Almighty God’s existence by using some of the many scientific verses in the Qur’an. Scientists are recently discovering these facts, but they were already in the Qur’an 1400 years ago! Please listen to the lecture. It is worth your time.

don't discount the knowledge of ancient astronomers, especially the arabs. while europe was plunging into the dark ages, the arabs were building universities. there's a good chance they realized the universe was expanding.
