I really want to buy these kind of trucks hopefully with under 120k miles on it. Is it a good dependable truck overall?

i have a 2001 chevy 1500 z-71 ex cab. we purchased it a year ago and have only had to do the usual - oil changes and change the brake pads/shoes. it had 68,000 miles on it when we got it and now it has 102,000. if this helps, we paid $16,900.00 for it. we could have gotten it cheaper i think, but in my area, we jumped on it cuz 4x4's are kinda hard to come by here. now the gas milage is a different story... in the winter we get around 21-22 mpg and in the summer with running the a/c, we get around 18 -19 mpg :>(
i guess it's about average with a 4x4 though. keep in mind that the newer models - sometimes when buying new parts it can cost more - the newer models can sometimes only be worked on through a dealer rather than working on them yourself depending on the part that needs work - alot of the parts can only be purchased through a dealer cuz of the parts stores not caring the parts (for instance when we had the oil changed, the part store didn't care the air filter) however, now advance auto does care one and it cost about 50.00, but has a lifetime warranty.
overall, we like the truck, but if we had it to do over again, we'd try to go with one that has the 4 full doors. our truck has 4 doors, but the back 2 are what i call half doors, lol... the 4 full doors are a big advantage if you have a family. also, on some of these trucks, a heater will come on the transmission to get it heated up quicker. they have several cool things that i like about them. and taxes cost 249.00 per year and insurance cost around 750.00 per year.

hope this info helps...

Yes, these are good dependable trucks. But, I'm not sure I'd get an ext. cab w/ a 4.8L, for sure. If, you're interested in an ext cab. make sure it has the bigger 5.3L if, not the 6.0L. To be able to put the added weight of the ext. cab.

I purchased a reg. cab. 04 Silverado C-1500(sportside) w/ the 4.8L in it, last yr. and granted, it's a nice ride and gets great gas mileage(19 city 24 hi-way). But, @ times I which it had more hp. Especially if, I'm haulin anything heavy or in the mtn./hilly area(s).

Check out the links below for more info on the GM trucks.

Good luck!

I have a 1999 Silverado 1500 LS regular cab 6 ft bed, and its one of the best trucks i've ever been in. With the V8 Vortec engine, nothing can go wrong. Its got 160,000 miles on it and im willing to bet i can hit 300,000. Its an awesome truck.

Very good trucks. I had a 99 Sierra 3 dr. and had no problems in the 4 years I owned it. I'd recommend Siverado or Sierra. I never had the 4.8 engine, but I know people that do, and they say they get 22 mpg on the highway. My 5.3 got a little less.

No it wont help. I have a 2001 5.3 that had a cold air and Magnaflow exhaust on it. Removed both and put the stock stuff back on and the mileage went back up. Now get 15/17 in town and 20/21 on the road. Your maintenance and your driving habits make the most difference...... If the truck has over 100,000 miles on it tune it up,replace the fuel filter and air filter and drive like you have an egg under the gas pedal. You can spend thousands of dollars on gimmicks to improve Gas mileage and get no to very little improvement. Save your money and use it for gas......................&&&

very dependable trucks the difference between the two engines is ten horsepower and torque pounds the only factor between the engines is that the 4.8 gets 2 ormore miles per gallon
