I disagree with the others, I think it is perfectly acceptable to use effects sparingly in a print resume. For example, on my resume, I have my job title in bold, then the company name (regular) then the dates in italics. Never had a complaint.
This is for printed resumes only, or if you are emailing it as a word document attachment.
If you are emailing the resume in the body of your message, use plain font with no formatting so it doesnt get garbled by their application.

You want your resume to be simple and easy to read. So here are the rules based on 500 years of printing technology and advocated by every designer who is not suffering from a major psycotic disorder.
1. Sans serif fonts for heades. Use the font Arial for headings. If you want to be a little bit fancy try Verdanna.
2. Serif fonts for general text. This is usual times new roman, but you might want to try garammond, as it is a little bit more compact and neater.
Don't use bold or italics except to highlight a few special words.
You want them to give you a job, and if they have 20 people applying for a job, and your resume is hard to read, well they are less likely to read it with care.

No. You want them to READ it. Type face that is odd or different is harder to read and a person may just toss it aside rather than contend with the odd print.
Use standard Times New Roman, no italics, no bold face, no fancy indenting or numbering.

No. Try to keep it simple - do not be fancy! I know you want to draw attention to yourself but do so in your cover letter.

as long as they can read what you've wrote and your happy with it don't worry what anyone else thinks and yes it probably will draw attention, but isn't that what you want?
