"When the student is ready, the teacher will appear."
-Loa Tzu

In my life, I have had and continue to have many teachers. Sometimes they take on a role of many years with me, and sometimes it is a chance encounter, a simple conversation.
One such teacher was a WWII veteran I met while waiting to find out if I had thyroid cancer. I was very afraid. He sat in a wheelchair in the waiting room. He was very kind and started talking about his life. He said he had a wonderful wife and they had been married 45 years. They married before the war. When he was injured, he wrote and told her that he was setting her free to marry someone else. She wrote back and told him to stop being silly, he was the love of her life. When he returned home, missing both legs, she had had his workshop in the garage remodeled to accommodate his wheelchair. As we talked, I suddenly was no longer worried about myself. I consider that man to be one of my greatest teachers.

Just about every person I've met or known has taught me something. My grandmother taught me to face life with conviction. She always said that if I didn't stand for something, I'd fall for anything. My grandmother was a wonderful woman. Why is it that after somebody dies that's when you realize what they really meant to you?

The Lord is my greatest teacher! I remember seeking Him out when I was around 8 or 9 years old. He has always walked with me ever since. There were times I did not think so, but I have come to realize it was not God that moved away from me, I had moved away from Him. He was always there.

He has sent many other teachers to me. My grandmothers,my father, my mother, my children, my animals! They each were there to teach me different things that the Lord saw fit to develop in me. For instance, my grandmothers taught me the love of God and to seek Him out, and that my life was not all about me. My dad taught me to love my country and defend her. My mother taught me about unconditional love, sacrifice and selflessness. My children taught me how to be joyful. My animals teach me loyalty and devotion. Even bad relationships were put there so that I was able to learn forgiveness. But I have to remember it is really God who puts these people in my life to shape and mold me. He also puts me here to teach others what I have learned. I know that all good things come from my perfect and divine heavenly Father's hand!

I have to say Jesus first. There have been many people who I've learned from, but my favorite teachers are my children. I've learned to see things for the first time again thanks to them. I laugh til I cry with them. I've learned I'm cool, not so "kewl", goofy, stuffy, and the most important person in the world because of them. I really learned love and patience from my little miracles!

God Bless.
