Little is known about the precise role of HGMA2, but the scientists believe that it could influence height by causing increased cell production. This is of interest because tall people are at a slightly greater risk of certain cancers, and cancers are caused by unregulated cell production.

Never mind I found the answer....
The gene was found by the same British team that discovered FTO, the first common gene known to contribute to obesity. Just as FTO is not a “fat gene”, HMGA2 is just one of many biological factors that affect height. It would not be possible to guarantee having a tall child by screening embryos for those with the “tall” variant, the scientists said.http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,295616,00.html
It is in Nature Genetics Magazine also...http://www.nature.com/ng/journal/vaop/ncurrent/abs/ng2121.html
