Is this one of the best dog food brands, or are there others that are better?

It is not the only food I give my dog, obviously, because she gets meat as well. But when I tried switching her biscuits, so much of her coat ended up in the sink during the next bathtime. I've tried some others, but her coat doesn't seem as healthy. I think it's the soy base in the biscuits...That's why I'm asking.

Sorry, I was not specific or detailed enough in my description. I'm am not vegetarian, nor do I want or expect my dog to be. I agree canines are meat eaters and should be fed meat as such. The biscuits I give my dog seem to help her coat a lot and form not even a quarter of her diet. I just wondered if anyone knew anything about the company who make them? Do you reckon I should change them if she is a good weight and her coat is healthy?

your dog is a carnivore - feed it meat!!

When you chose to have a dog you chose to look after it. A dog is a carnivore and is designed for eating carcasses not vegetables and grain. Would you feed a lion bananas or a shark seaweed? What is the difference?

Do some research into a species appropriate diet for your pet carnivore. While dogs are CARNIVORES they are not obligate carnivores like cats. Dogs can and do choose to eat some vegetable matter but this should not be the basis for, or even a significant proportion of, their diet.

Go to the pet store and stare reading labels, you will never feed Beneful again. Look for a food that had meat as the first ingredient. NO by products, wheat or corn. I do not feed can food, but dry food with a little microwaved chicken on it. If you do canned food read the label may are really high in sodium. feed the wet food and dry food together, dogs have sensitive stomachs and changing their food each day will be a problem. You won't find good food at the grocery store, there are some at the big box pet stores, the best place to go is the smaller pet supply stores. My favorite brand is Evanger's which you will only find at the smaller pet stores. Oh FYI, our local rep has forgotten her lunch at shows and eaten the food, the chicken legs and thighs, are chicken and water. They are also the only dog food company with their own manufacturing plant. Before I learned about GOOD food, I feed Beneful, an added advantage is the poop clean up with higher quality food is way less. The dogs process more of the foods so there is less waste.

Dogs are not vegetarian, so no this is NOT a good food neither is any other vegetarian food.

Dogs are carnivores, not herbivores. If a person can't stand the fact that a pet NEEDS meat, then they should stick to pets that don't require it such as rabbits for example.

Good foods include Canidae, Innova, and Solid Gold to name a few.

***Bonsylar, the scientific classification for dogs lists them under carnivore.

I prefer to give my dog meat based food. I sometimes give him a little meat as a treat. I can't speak for your dog but I don't think mine would eat vegetarian dog food.

As I have never heard of a vegetarian dog - is this the new in thing with yuppies and their dogs??

Dogs eat meat. Don't subject them to your personal beliefs about food and animals. Let them eat meat!

Every vet will tell you something different. Why? Because they have agreements with that brand. Most of them are the same.
I have fed every dog of mine Pedigree forever. Since as long as I can remember. However, I now have a special needs dog, so I looked into it a bit more.
Now I will stick by organic dog foods more than anything, especially because of the pet food scare. It's about $5 more for the huge bag, but all of our dogs (and only one is the special needs) seem to be healthier, and their coats look better.
The brand is Nature Organic. you can get it at PetSmart.

Dogs need meat.

They don't do well as vegetarians, and soy protein isn't good for them.

Do the best, responsible thing and get a good, organic dog food. The best one is Artemis.

Other good ones:
Innova, Wellness, California Natural, and Canidae.

***NOTE***
Dogs are more omnivorous than carnivorous. They can get nutrition from fruits and vegetables, but they MUST have meat to be healthy

No. Dogs are carnivores and need meat. Mine loves fresh fruits and veggies, but no dog can stay healthy for long without meat.
A good organic food with meat as its first ingredient, with no wheat or corn is your best bet.
