I got a pet turtle that loves minno's. I always check them to make sure they are safe and sterilize them from bactiria and salmanella. I want a variety of minno's and baby fish becuse the person i work for is in need of a few for her pond. She curently has 0 fish in it and it is spring fed. give me a few idias of common houshold items that would work, the person with the most realistic and feasable idias gets the points for this one, if there is a tie i will leave it up to voters.

A minnow trap is the way to go.
But before catching minnows, check your state regulations. Some streams in my state are close to catching minnows at certain times of the year.
You can use bread, dry dog food, sardines, canned corn, or a combination of all as bait. I have found that all baits work better if placed in an old onion bag or similar mesh bag. Tie this bag in the center of the trap using twist ties, fishing line etc. that way the minnows will have to enter the trap to get to the bait. (enough of it will disperse to attract them). place trap in location where there are minnows!! depending on your schedule, and the amount of minnows in the area, you can stick around and empty the trap every hour or so, or you can leave it over night and check it in the morning.
Your friends pond is a different story. Once again, Check your regulations!! You can catch minnows to stock the pond. But to stock it with "game fish" you should contact a company who will stock the pond for you.

It's pretty hard to catch minnows like you would other fish. And if you are trying to catch fish to stock a pond, using a hook is not a great idea.

The best thing to do, would be to find a small creek that has fish in it and use something like a butterfly net to catch em.

You will also want to get them to the pond as quick as you can. Small fish and minnows will live about a half hour or so in a 5 gallon bucket of water without supplemental oxygen. Use the water from the creek.

I would suggest going to an aquarium/pond supplier and discussing it with them. Or even a well established bait shop. They would know what to use. Or even suggest to your employer buying fish for the pond. That way there is some guarantee for the health of the fish being stocked. And the people she would buy the fish from would sell her the best species for the environment. Sometimes it's best to talk to an "expert" so to speak.

chunks of bread in a minnow trap you can get a minnow trap at walmart or bass pro and tie a skinny rope about 15'-20' long toss it in a creek close to your house tie it off to a tree, leave it over night check it the next day a there should be some in the trap. just make sure the trap is in deep enough water probably any where from 2ft deep to 6ft deep. good luck.

use a small salmon egg hook with the softest cheapest white bread out there, and make small little dough balls with a small bobber, next best choice would be a small can of Green Giant niblet corn(seems to have the smaller kernels)

after that I have used small craft pompom's about 4 mm on a hook, using a small splitshot weight and a bobber......

they sell minnow-traps but I have never caught anything in them........
tho the easy way would be to go to a bait shop
