My cat was recently diagnosed as being diabetic. My mom didnt want to put her down bc we had just put down our 7 year old cat 2 months before from kidney failure. Shes 15 years old slightly overweight but I love her to death. We have to give her 2 shots a day. What i'm wondering is how long can a diabetic cat live is it the same if she wasnt?

Diabetes is not a deathg sentence, no life span is lost and your cat can live a long happy life.
Unfortuantatly many vets aren't up to date on treatment and some of them can prescibe very dangerous treatmnets.
This is a disease where you have to be the primary caregiver. You want to start on a low dose of insulin like 1 unit 2x a day.
Do you hometest? It is the only way to know if it is safe tio give insulin as well as giving you the info needed to treat this disease, I can teach you how.
What food are you feeding? You do not want or need to feed the prescription foods the vets sells, dm or md or wd. Canned foods under 10% carbs are best. Dry food is the number 1 cause of diabetes in cats. This list gives the breakdown

Did the vet teacjh you to test for ketones? How to watch and treat a hypo attack? I know this stuff sounds scary but after a short bwhile things become routine and easy. Please click on my name and read my profile. Don't hesitate to contact me with any questions

My cat had diabetes for 4 years. He was 17 years old when he died last month from kidney failure. Having diabetes didn't seem to make a big difference in him. He was very good about getting his shots, as soon as I got his food bowl out he would come into the kitchen and I would give him his shot while he was eating. I had to give him shots twice a day also. The only problem his diabetes caused was that I had to make sure I was home when it was time for his shots. It didn't seem to change him at all.
Good Luck! Give your cat a hug from me.

Cats on insulin can live a very long time, over 10 years in some cases. It's not a case of you just waiting till the disease takes them. If they're regulated, then they're ok to keep on doing their normal life span.

Hudson turned diabetic when he hit 10 years of age, he's been on insulin for a while now and is doing great.
