Someone should have told you during your interview when to expect to hear from them. After 2 weeks, I would say that it is ok to call HR and ask if a decision has been made.

Mature job hunters are NEVER waiting ,
They are putting in aps and going to interviews non-stop .
They are too busy to "wait" , and do the job hunt until they get an offer .
The "waiting" people are often know by another term ,
The unemployed .
And serious people always check back with HR ,
Why are you asking permission to call ?

Thats just a brush off technique they use instead of saying sorry we dont want to hire you, you will notice that every interviewer will tell you something like this even though they have no intention of hiring you, its not very professional in my opinion, if they truly liked you they would hire you on the spot.

Call, i heard of a story that the company had lost the application papers and then she called and they actualy gave her the job because they really liked her interview.....good luck
