I guess it's how you do it. If you use a professional they don't numb it first, they clean the area with alcohol, then use a gun to pierce quickly and virtually painlessly. If you have someone do it at home, then they numb it with ice by placing on each side of the ear for 15 to 20 minutes. Then they use a heavy gauage needle. I strongly suggest going to a professional. They get the holes even, and it's much less trouble. Good luck!

I only have my ear lobes pierced but I haven't really been wearing earrings recently so they have closed up a little. But alot of my friend have had piercings, such like your, ear cartilage, two on both lobes, belly button and also the hand, and one nose. I'm sorry but I did hear that anywhere on you ear other than the lobe is sore and it can't be numbed I'm sure it will be worth it though 'cause it sounds nice. Not trying to scare you or anything but you should try some ice against a hour or so before you go to the professional who is piercing your ear. I'm sure if they Had something to offer to stop the pain then they will give it to you. Hope it goes well, bye!

I had my ear cartlidge pierced once with a gun only a few years back and found out that it was illegally done and has been illegal for something like 7 years. they do not numb the ear but it is easy and doesn't hurt all that much, just make sure that you are getting it done in the right position and its being done by a professional. Good luck

I had mine peirced at home. The first one we tried to numb with ice and it hurt like hell. The second we just pushed the needle through and all was well.
