Have any of you read some of the stuff they believe? Anybody read the part where kids who sassed their parents were taken out and stoned? Just as an example. Do they actually discuss this stuff, or do they just pass over it? How do they square the Bible with reality?

And don't tell me to go to church and find out for myself, no thanks!

Kids shouldn't be getting stoned.

It had to be serious disrespect in order to stone the kid for it and it had to be repeated over time. The kid couldn't be stoned for just one incident. That's a gross exaggeration from a very anti-Christian individual. Besides, that law was intended for ancient Israel, not for us today, although the Puritans didn't think so. Yeah, we discuss the whole Bible. It's a big book, so it takes a while to get through. However, I've noticed over the years that preachers tend to preach from the same parts over and over again. It's a little irritating. There are some though, that go through the whole Bible verse by verse. I like them better. I was taught in Bible college that one should only teach what one understands, so if one only understands the 23rd Psalm, for instance, one should only preach from the 23rd Psalm. For the most part I would say that's good advice, although I have been known to pick a passage that I didn't understand and ask people to comment on it. Sometimes there are people in the audience who understand it better than I do and that exercise is very useful both for me and for them. If you really want to know though, the best way to find out is to go there yourself. :)

Why do you ask the question on the Internet and in the same breath say "Don't tell me to go to church"? It's probably a little different in every church.A little different structure, but the message is the same. Since theres new believers all the time a lot of stuff is repeated. Repetition is good though, I always get something new out of it.

We focus more on the New Testament than the Old, since it describes the new covenant we live by now. Why don't you visit a church sometime and find out what they talk about, if you're genuinely interested?

The Bible is such that even if a person reads a verse one thousand times, there's still something to learn from it.

THAT is what we talk about.

And it's also a time to be with other Christians, and to praise God.

Ah - The Old Testament. It's full of stuff like that.

But there are many churches that don't focus on that. They focus on the New Testament.

In my church, we never run out of things to talk about.

And funny thing, but God is never one of the topics.

Clever clergy will cherry pick their pre fabricated bookstore sermons in an effort to look intelligent and god worthy.

We stoned a couple of kids last Sunday.
What do we talk about? Mostly about you.

You're welcome. Churches have enough trouble with people who unintentionally distort the Christian message. Don't need those who intentionally do it.
