That is easy because it draws an amp and that is very simple to handle.

If you used a number 16 or 18 gage wire (the smallest you are likely to find in a lamp cord) it would be more than enough in terms of current. Your major concern would be how small a wire you could use without it being so frail that it would easily break. That is why it is hard to get a 20 or 22 gage offered for your lamp.

If the cord is not longer than 8 feet, 18 gauge will do.
Often you can buy cord with molded plug of different styles at local hardware store. (wire guage will be marked on cord!)
