That's what fornication is as used in the King James.
Sexual imorality is sex outside of marrage or adultry or homosexuality or prostitution.

1 Corinthians 6
9 Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders 10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.

The Bible says that God has always condemned sexual immorality (Ephesians 5:3,5; 1 Corinthians 6:13,18; Hebrews 12:14-17; Colossians 3:5).

The Bible says that fornication or immorality is an abomination, and considered as "filthy" before God (Revelation 17:4).

In order to avoid immorality, the Bible says that God created marriage (1 Corinthians 7:1-2). In Hebrews 13:4, the Bible says, "Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed undefiled; but fornicators and adulterers God will judge."

Is sex before marriage okay if you love each other?

No, sex before marriage is sinful even if you love each other. Being in love doesn't alter the reality that the sexual act is outside of marriage, marriage being the ceremonial union of a man and woman in matrimony. Sex outside of marriage is called fornication and the Bible definitely condemns it.

Matt. 15:19-20, "For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, slanders. 20 “These are the things which defile the man."
Acts 15:29, "...that you abstain from things sacrificed to idols and from blood and from things strangled and from fornication; if you keep yourselves free from such things, you will do well."
1 Cor. 6:9-10, "Or do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, 10 nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, shall inherit the kingdom of God."
Heb. 13:4, "Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled; for fornicators and adulterers God will judge."
So, very clearly fornication is condemned in scripture and there is no provision for it being acceptable just because someone loves each other. Besides if this couple is so much in love, then why don't they carry out what true love is and marry each other? True love is when you put another person first, not when you take from them. For a man and woman to engage in fornication is to declare that such love for the other person is more self centered, than other centered.

It does say that it is better to marry, because it is not a sin when you are married it is if you are not, so it is better to marry and therefore not sin than it is to not marry and therefore sin.
The Bible tells us that King Solomon once observed a young man being seduced into premarital sex. Solomon compared the young man to “a bull that comes even to the slaughter.” A bull that is to be butchered seems to have no idea what is about to happen to it. Young ones who engage in premarital sex often behave similarly-they seem to show little or no awareness that there are serious consequences to their actions! Solomon said of that young man: “He has not known that it involves his very soul.” (Proverbs 7:22, 23) Yes, your “soul”-your life-is at stake.
For example, each year millions of youths contract a sexually transmitted disease (STD). “When I found out I had herpes, I wanted to run away,” says Lydia. She laments, “It is a painful disease that will never go away.” Over half of all new HIV infections worldwide (6,000 a day) occur among those who are between 15 and 24 years of age.

Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.

Fornication is voluntary sexual intercourse between a man and woman who are not married to each other.

"The Greek word for 'fornication' (porneia) could include any sexual sin committed after the betrothal contract. …In Biblical usage, 'fornication' can mean any sexual congress outside monogamous marriage. It thus includes not only premarital sex, but also adultery, homosexual acts, incest, remarriage after un-Biblical divorce, and sexual acts with animals, all of which are explicitly forbidden in the law as given through Moses (Leviticus 20:10-21). Christ expanded the prohibition against adultery to include even sexual lusting (Matthew 5:28)."

Do you not know that sinful men will have no place in the holy nation of God? Do not be fooled. A person who does sex sins, or who worships false gods, or who is not faithful in marriage, or men who act like women, or people who do sex sins with their own sex, will have no place in the holy nation of God.

Deuteronomy 23:13-30 is all about sexual sin. It shows that a girl must be a virgin at marriage.

I have always understood that God's original idea for sex is an act of commitment to another. Outside of marriage, sex can destroy relationships,. Within marriage, sex is a relationship builder.

Hebrews 13:4; I Corinthians 5:9; Revelation 21:9; etc., etc., etc. The Bible says over and over again that fornication, which means sex before marriage, is sin.

I'm an atheist, but I do know a little about this. Mary's immaculate conception means that her conception of baby jesus was clean. That means that she was without sin. Therefore Jesus is a legitimate baby and thus joseph's progeny. So to have a "clean" religious birth, you should be married in the church's eyes. Since you mentioned the word sin, it would be a sin to have sex before you are married, at least according to religion.

well it was kinda hard to find this answer but i was wondering about it too.....In 1Thessalonians 4:3 it says: "For this is what God wills, the sanctifying of you, that you abstain from fornication" and also in Hebrews 13:4 it says: "Let marriage be honorable among all, and the marriage bed be without defilement, for God will judge fornicators and adulterers". It doesn't say directly that you shouldn't have sex before marriage but it does say that fornication is condemned by god.....hope that helped answer your question

If one is to be married to one person and not have sex with another or one is committing adultery. The first person you have sex with is therefore the only one you would ever have sex with as you have committed an act that has to be kept for marriage. You are from that time on committing adultery.

Just one example.

Deuteronomy 22:23

23 If a man happens to meet in a town a virgin pledged to be married and he sleeps with her,

Deuteronomy 22:24

24 you shall take both of them to the gate of that town and stone them to death—the girl because she was in a town and did not scream for help, and the man because he violated another man's wife. You must purge the evil from among you.
