Hello.
I am a high school student and I am going to be 16 in October.
I was wondering if I was old enough to volunteer at a hospital and if you have ever done that, what type of things will they make me wear. I am interested in the medical field when I am older and wanted to volunteer at a local hospital to make my resume really good and I like to help out people!

I live in New Jersey and wanted to volunteer at Palisades General Hospital, if you know any information about volunteering in this hospital like what things do they do, whats the uniform, etc, please post NOW!

Thank You!

I live in Ky, I volunteer at a hospital. It is a great thing to do and I commend you for your thoughtfulness to others. People your age can volunteer here on saturdays, they have a program. you can work in different departments, some work in like physical therapy or in arts and crafts or even in dietary needs for the patients. To be a good volunteer though you have to love people. If you love people as I do you will love the job. About the clothing problems I know of is there cannot be any type of levis or jeans, nothing made of denim. This will certainly be good training for you when you get ready to go to work for real. You will know what its all about. Good luck and God Bless!!!

They might make you wear a simple smock or wear a uniform.

You should be old enough but it depends on hospital policies. You'd have to take a TB test and participate in some type of interview/orientation before you volunteer.

Call up the hospital and ask to be connected to the volunteer department. They should be able to answer all your questions.

I think it's great that you want to go into that field. It is definitely helping people. I work in a hospital in Canada. We have all kinds of volunteers that are a very valuable part of the community. They help patients with their meals, bring them water and newspapers and provide companionship more than anything. they just wear a vest over their regular clothes with a name tag. Good luck!

It additionally matter on who owns the well-being center and how they react to teenagers. the known age for my section however is 15 or sixteen with parental permission.. you need to call up the well-being center which you incredibly pick to volunteer at and ask 'em ;)
