Ok, here goes. Everyone is talking about the NASCAR Chase. Like, who is going to win. I say, Ha, what a joke. Had it not been for nascars bright idea of allowing the has beens to be in the CHASE, Gordon would be the # 6 Champ. That is a fact. The chase is no more than all the 11 runner up's being able to claim they are the champ. That is also a fact. It was bad enough allowing 12 people to claim a title without having a winning season, now we are going to NARROW the field so that the winningest driver will only be the champ if EVERYTHING goes his way. Yeah, what a joke. I'll bet Mr. Earnhart is up there laughing at this crazy idea.

I know a lady whom is a 'MAJOR' Jeff Gordon fan and she would absolutely agree with you. Plain and simple; NASCAR needs to keep all of the BULL CRAP (politics so to speak) out of it and let them race. "HEY, let's make up new rules whenever we feel like it". Doesn't that remind you of a bunch of little kids playing and making rules up as they go?

So many people state that Jeff Gordon should win it in the last ten races.... so many hold to a belief that it is all about consistency.... that it takes consistency all season long to win a championship and that is what the last ten races are all about.

Really? So the fact that Earnhardt Jr could possibly make the chase and win the championship is based on consistency? The fact that Gordon is ahead by 798 points was from what do you suppose if not consistency? And mathematically, without the Chase, Jeff Gordon could come in 16th each of the final ten races and even if Earnhardt JR could win all ten final races with the most lap lead bonus AND most laps bonus and he still would not beat Gordon.

But in the Chase, the final ten races have become more important than the season itself. Gordon's 798 points are replaced with 40. Now if someone like Harvick or Earnhardt Jr. start to get things together and Gordon, Stewart, or Johnson have a bad start, get caught up in an early wreck.... all that they accomplished in the first 26 races is gone.

It sort of reminds me of a lottery or bingo. And it's not like Earnhardt Jr is down 798 points to 6,000 or 7,000 points. Gordon only has 3,679.... so we are talking about a 25% lead being tossed aside in the Chase.

Forget that Gordon has been in the Top 5 an amazing 60% of the races year and in the Top ten an even more remarkable 80% of ther races this year. Not to mention, Gordon has won aproximately 15% of the races this season! Since it is all about consistency..... let's give Earnhardt Jr. who has not won a race, only been in the Top 5 just 25% compared to Gordon's 60% and only in the Top 10 40% compared to Gordon's 80%... And let's give him an equal shot at the championship in the final ten races.

The Chase is not about consistency.... it is about taking the best driver for 26 races and making him start over. It is about taking 9 or 10 losers that year and giving them a chance to be the "winner".

All professional sports have a playoff at the end of the season. If NASCAR is going to be viewed has a professional "sport" shouldn't it too have a playoff?? How many times have we seen a football team with not the BEST record in the league win the superbowl? What about in baseball, that happens all the time. Follow the money, if a chase brings more revenue into NASCAR don't we has fans reap the benefits??

The chase ,the guarantied top 35 cars being in the race, and provisional are all a crock of bull cookies.
THe honest and consistant thing is th fastest 43 run.
The driver with the most points wins.
Stop the bull that the chase makes racing more intresting, it does not! It makes 31 drives look like 2nd class.

The mere fact that you ask this question shows exactly why they implemented the chase format. We are talking about this subject, and racing in general, INSTEAD of football right now. The champion would ALMOST be determined already and the fringe fans wouldn't be near as interested in the last 10 or 11 races. Love it or hate it the chase is accomplishing what it set out to do and they will never go back to the old system.

Nascar is just making it more exciting for the fans. If they didn't have the chase, Jeff Gordon would be so far ahead and whats the excitement in that? Its like Nascar having playoffs or like the finals, all sports have it, why not Nascar?! I think its a great thing that Nascar has done!

Hey Jeff Gordon fan, only Gordon fans are complaining this year. If it was 12 drivers and Gordon was fighting for 12th you'd be singing a different tune. This is the way it is, so enjoy it, if Jeff wins or loses the championship.

I feel your pain on this matter. I'm not a big fan of it. It's like trowing the caution flag to let everyone catch up and challenge for the title. It only rewards consistency to get in the chase. Once your in your even with a guy that last week was 400 or more points ahead of you and you mathematically would never catch him. Hopefully we will see a split in NASCAR soon similar to the one in the past with Indy. I think that would Shake NASCAR's boot and make them realize how they have screwed up the racing series over the past few years.

Wait til Jr fails to make the Chase again this year. NASCAR will change it to the top 20 guys next year!

And if Tim Richmond had not died Dale may never have gotten 7 and if Davey Allison and Rob Moroso had not been killed Jeff may not have but 1 championship. If If If!

Oh! and by the way. Maybe the best system is the one they use in F-1!

personally i dislike the new chase format that is the one thing that didn't need to be "fixed" but i also dislike the point system and the way the points are allocated it is just as obscure as having 43? cars on the field and complicated to understand or explain
