You can often tell by the way the meat looks or smells. It it has a bad odor or is discolored, I would pitch it. My mom used to say, "If in doubt, throw it out". Sometimes it's really hard to tell, if it looks and smells okay, but I think if thawed meat has been kept cold in the fridge, and marinated, it should be safe, since the marinade might actually help preserve it.

A week is a bit much. Hopefully, the steaks (in their marinade) have been refrigerated. In which case, they wouldn't go "bad", in the sense that they're spoiled. But marinades do tend to dry meats out, so too long in the marinade can have an effect that's the opposite of what you want. What you can do, though, is remove the steaks from the marinade, wrap them in plastic, and freeze them. The marinade will stop "working" in the freezer, and you can put the steak/steaks in the fridge to thaw on the morning of the day you plan to eat them.

If you thawed them a week ago, time to toss them!
Once meat is defrosted, it should be cooked within 2 days.

If they smell bad they are spoiled. One week in the fridge is too long....don't take a chance and make yourself very ill!
