My son is nearly 2 and he started having this horrible drooling & fever. He wouldn't close his mouth & couldn't pronouce his words. So I took him to the ER. They said he has blisters all in the inside of his mouth & now even some on the outside. He can't swallow & I'm afraid he's going to dehydrate. Any ideas on how to help him or make him feel better? They said he has Stomatitis & tonsillitis. He's so hungry & thristy but when something goes in his mouth it comes back out & he starts crying. I can only imagine what it feels like. Any home remedies that can get him by until tomorrow morning when he goes to see his PCP?

See if you can get him to eat a popsicle. If he can't eat or drink anything, he really should go to the hospital so they can give him IV fluids. Have you been able to get him to swallow liquid Tylenol or Motrin for the fever? Poor baby. If he hasn't been able to eat or drink all day, you should take him back to the ER and request that they start IV fluids. Dehydration is a dangerous situation. Good luck and I hope he gets better soon!

Take your son back to the ER.. I do not think this is life threatening; however it is traumatic. He should be getting IV fluids at the very least. Perhaps ice chips.. I know that Popsicles have been suggested and while I agree.. the sucking on the Popsicle might hurt too much.. ice chips may or may not be better... Fluids are necessary. The IV will be upsetting at first; however I think he will be better suited to take whatever additional treatment necessary.

Oh, I feel for you.. my son had a septic hip when he was about 2 and he was in the hospital and it was horrible.. but we got through it.. you will too.

I know that you are doing everything you can.. but get him back in, loss of liquid for a day is not crucial; however if this gets worse OR if his tonsils inflame, you will already be where you need to be.

Please let us know...

I wish you well!

Try putting tiny piece of crushed ice in his mouth and have him suck on it. It might soothe the blisters and it will give him water. Otherwise if that doesnt work take him back to the ER and get him started on IV. This is your sons life take him back to the ER if you have too!

Would popsicles help to sooth the blisters. Or freezy pops - pedialyte makes some, or a slush.

I would suggest the Pedialyte Popsicles to help with dehydration and that they may feel good on his sore mouth.

I would take him back to the ER and have him admitted so he can start IV fluids. Get pushy, this is your sons life we are talking about.
