Without an OS, your Mac won't read an ISO. you'll need to burn the image to disc you can boot from that though.

how they heck will it read anything without an OS? unless the iso has mack boot files on it.

linux is compatible with both pc and mac. there might be a problem with the drivers such as audio and stuff. but other than that, it will run fine.
