Most of the time, dating in junior high just means mutual likeness- both parties can get along fairly easily and you get the rush of being in a relationship (which, in this case, no one actually knows what it means...)
It's perfectly acceptable so long as you know not to get too serious. I would strongly advise against french kissing or anything beyond- for such a young age, it could lead to something too serious. Instead, hang out in groups and do things you both like to do. Go mini golfing, host a game night, play basketball, volunteer at a shelter... it's mainly a way to get used to getting along with the opposite sex and not having to worry about cooties!
Have fun, and savor your younger years. Looking back, I wish I had... Good Luck!

Today there is so much pressure for kids to "not wait".If they want to skate, bowl, etc. with other young people (sometimes).
The key is a boy and girl need to not be in a situation that could "get you in trouble".
I would say try to avoid much dating till you are older.Don't have sex until you are married.Avoid the problems.

Yes. It teaches them social skills and what they would or would not like in a future long-term serious relationship. I would suggest group dates at first. Movies, bowling, etc.
