I lived on campus my freshman year and had a lot of freedom. I did pretty much whatever I wanted. I've always been a good girl and I was raised to make good decisions. I've never really given my parents problems.

Since the summer started, my parents have given me a curfew. At first it was 1am but then I argued it up to 2am. If I had it my way, I wouldnt have a curfew. None of my friends have curfews!!!

I'm pissed because now I live at home (half an hour from school) this semester AND I have a curfew.

My dad said I am too young to be out late and he is concerned about my safety. Safety is important to me too, but don't you think it's a little much to give me a curfew??? I'm not in high school anymore!!!

As long as you live in your parents' house you have to deal with their rules. They probably cannot sleep until you are back at home and they know you are safe... not stuck on the side of the road needing a wrecker. A lot can happen in the midst of a 30-minute drive.

Why 2 AM? The bars close at 2 AM, and at that point anyone leaving the bars is probably drunk. Good enough reason to be at home by 2 AM.

The way around the curfew? Find a friend to stay with until morning, and let your parents know your plans as such and give them the phone number to that place.

You view this as an arbitrary control issue. It really isn't.

Yeah, tell me about it. So I'm 20 and still have a curfew. In fact, it's only midnight on the weekends. 11pm on the weekdays. You're living in their house, so they make the rules. What can you do?!

well, its fine to have curfews in that age because your parents thinking of your own safety; so try to understand them because its not safe anymore going out late like what happened to my brothers; my parents didn't gave them curfews and now, they were stabbed by drug addicts while they were in bars and restaurants with their friends which they almost been killed....that's why I do believe that our parents know whats' best for us so listened to them....

i hate to say it...the streets are not as safe as they used to be. perhaps if you could go out with friends..stay in groups..your parents may think differently. you are benefitting by staying at home...meals...perhaps being rent free or paying little rent..you are under their roof. you need to speak with them and come up with a comprimise. you are older as you said..so you should be respectful and be more responsible.
