I'm 13. I have many of the symptoms. It takes me forever to fall asleep at night. I usually don't wake up in the middle of the night, but when I do, I can't go back to sleep. I fidget constantly. I have lost interest in many of my favorite activities. I hate being around my family and participating in family activities. I have trouble concentrating in class. I feel horrible all of the time. It's not like normal sadness, and I can't seem to understand what's causing it. If I am depressed, shouldI get help? Based on the information given if I do have depression, how would you rate it on a scale of 1-10? I've never felt like this before. If not depression, what is it? I've felt this way for over a year. It lasts long after two weeks.

YOU ARE A TEENAGER! Simple answer I know, but true. Your hormones are raging and your body is changing, until that stops, your emotions will have many ups and downs.

It is normal, don't worry. Just make sure you eat healthy, get plenty of rest (teens need 9-12 hours, more than any age group), push yourself to do the things you love, get exercise daily and don't isolate yourself from friends and family.

I will almost guarantee if you do the above, you will feel better. If you make an effort and nothing works, I suggest you tell a counselor at school and discuss what could be contributing to this mood. Sometimes stress or family problems cause depression, other times it is more serious. You don't have a serious depression or you'd be unable to function normally. Take care sweetie, I am sure you'll be just fine. Enjoy this time in your life, it goes by much too fast.

I started becoming depressed when I was about 13, I am now 24. I didn't get help until a year ago. Please don't wait like I did. You are young and should lead a normal happy life. Talk with your parents, your family doctor or the school nurse so you can get back on track.

You need to talk to a professional. A good place to start is with your physician.
If you can't do that at least talk to your school counselor.
Your parents should know about the way you are feeling too so they can help you....you know..Dr. appointment, counseling.
