anorexics & bulimics often maintain a thin apperance as long as they continue starving themselves or binging & purging...
but as a result of this destructive behavior -- they ruin their metabolisms. and in an effort to prevent total starvation, the body will go into preservation mode -- by slowing down the metabolism. as a result of this slowed down metabolism, your body will begin storing the food you eat -- versus burining it as fuel. this food is stored as fat, as an energy reserve for future use.
by converting this food into a fat reserve, former bulimics & anorexics often experience a significant weight gain. ((over an extended period of time)) although the damage to the metabolism is reversable, it is a long, hard UPHILL battle!!

Exactly right!!! Wrong ha ha lol....the thing is that a lot of anorexics are a combination of healthy eaters, bulimics, and low confidence people. If you are healthy and are trying to loose weight by not eating....your body will start feeding itself of off your fat supply and even muscles...most people do not go long enough without eating to actually loose weight ....they do it as a quick fix and they usually can't last as long as anorexics...why? Because for anorexics it's a way of life....they follow it to a T....and for them eating a bite of a burger (though they likely wouldn't) is like putting on 10 lbs. The live on low calorie, low fat, things that come in and go straight out....like food rich in riber because their idea is to stay skinny and never gain weight....if they do at any point give in...they turn to throwing up to get rid of whatever they have eaten that goes against their healthy image or their healthy food rules. Most of the time they have low confidence and they may look great but they dont think or feel that they do. Some look better with 10 lbs on them but they think those 10 lbs makes them look fat, obese, disgustingly ugly...in their eyes they see a completely different person....a completely different body. It takes a while for anorexics to be skinny just as it would take us to finally loose that weight and be skinny....but only those with anorexics actually follow the diet that they believe will make them beautiful....you and me may not go the distance enough to shed the pounds that they do. Good question....a lot of girls I'm sure have tried this...and it doesn't work!! It takes time to get that skinny and most of us can't stick to a diet for longer than 3 if not a week....and if you can go longer then you should be skinny by then and not need to worry about starving. There are several healthy ways to loose weight ....FASTER THAN STARVING YOURSELF. IT's good that you ask so other people can read and know that it's not a good way to get healthy.

well starving does make you lose weight because your body starts eating off of the nuetrients you have stored in other places (organs, bones, etc.). However, that slows down your metabolism so when you do start eating again this may cause weight gain. I am pro-ana and i have gone moths without eating anymore than 180 calories per day. Unfortunatly i havent broke the cycle yet an benge now an then.
If you are trying to lose weight by starving, the only way to make it successfully without gaining weight, is to NOT BINGE AFTER....it only leads to purging in fear of gaining. Slowly reveal your body back to eating.
Most anorexics eat small amounts of food a day so that 1) they are less likly to binge, and for 2) so they "trick" their metabolism.
Please dont start starving yourself if your question was because you were considering it. My life has been in some way a living hell since i started, but in a way, I dont want to stop.

Because they don't eat anything and don't until either they admit themselves to a hospital where she or he can recover slowly or they die. I think the first person didn't understand your question fully. You do not gain weight if you starve yourself but you do when you all of a sudden you start eating allot again. Anorexics are very sick and they need help because they can die and loose everything which is so sad. I was for a while and when I started eating I gained some weight but not all of it because I recovered slowly by eating very little then building myself back up. It is never a good idea but some just feel that that is the only way.

People who are anorexic at the time are so skinny because their bodies aren't getting enough nourishment, so the body sucks nourishment from every part it can get, drawing on emergency reserves of fats.
But when a person who has been anorexic for a while eats something that's considered a good sized meal, their bodies are not used to getting that much nourishment, and they can't metabolize (break down) the food, so the food is deposited as pure fat in the body, making these anorexic people bigger.

Because when the fat person starves themselves, they slow down their metabolism. When they finally do eat, their body holds on to it because it doesn't know when it will get another one.
With anorexia bulimia, the eater vomits or takes laxatives to remove the food before it has a chance to be digested. Anorexics are often lethargic like a fat person though, usually they are not very high energy unless drugs are involved.

Because if you actually starve yourself you will naturally lose weight, and muscle, and do heart damage and so on....
When people say starving yourself makes you gain eight they mean when you starve yourself for a while and then begin eating normally ( Or binging ) that throws off your metabolism and slows it down

Anorexics are so skinny because they don't eat...period. They are so skinny because they have muscle wasting. If you aren't anorexic and starve yourself...then start eating again...that's when you gain the weight because your body will hang onto everything you eat because it's starving.

starvation doesnt cause you to gain weight but lose muscle and water weight and when those are almost gone start using fat reserves for energy - it slows down metabolism dramatically so most of people who have recovered from this mental disease will never be skinny or thin again - most of them become overweight or even obese in the future.
not all anorexics are skinny - many die from it being still very obese.

well i have starved myself and i did loose weight . i did it for two weeks and i lost 17 pounds. you have to have the will power and
you have to exercise every day so your body is forced to loose the fat and not store it because it isnt getting anything else. but i mean like 4 hours of sweat exercising like cardiio and crazy jumping and a great mix of crunches. also water i was drinking about a gallon of water or more a day and gum but chew wisely gas was good to make me feel full but too much gas made my tummy hurt. i tried again after i was not that active and i could maybe i didnt have enough will power
though you have inspired me to try it again im in desperate need to lose like 25 pounds. good luck!
