I get a knocking noise when I back up and make sharp turns. It only seems to be in the front right part of my car. The car place replaced the steering rings (if that is what they are called) and the steering rack. It helped but the problem still comes back. Any other advice?

If you are hearing the noises only with the wheel turned full lock and then driving up or down a driveway, then it sounds like there is no grease on the turn limiting stops that prevent turning the steering wheel past a preset maximum point. Apply some grease and your problem is yesterday's news.

It may be your sway bar links. These will make a knocking noise when they are soft or worn excessively. You should probably take the car back to where you got it fixed and take the service adviser with you while you drive to show him/her what your hearing. It will make it easier for them to assist you with the issue.

You may also be turning the car to the stop point. This is a point on the car where you will hear a knock if you turn the steering wheel too far as it prevents you from turning further than is mechanically allowable. The steering system is only supposed to turn so far.

It could also be a cv joint depending on the age, wear and tear of your vehicle.

Have a mechanic check your right front for a worn Constant Velocity (CV)joint.

have your engine support be checked and replace as this is most of the problem of front wheel drive vehicle where the front right wheel is the driving wheel.
